My puppy wakes up barking early. How can I get her to sleep longer?

You could try to add a sound machine to the room that she sleeps in and also black out curtains to help keep the room dark. But you should also know that sleeping in until 6:30am for a puppy is actually REALLY good. Most puppies like to wake up at 5-5:30am. Another thing would be trying to keep her up later at night in the hopes to help her sleep longer in the morning. Unfortunately this doesn't always works. I would agree with your mom that you want to let her out in the morning when she is quiet but if she has been quiet all night and it is daylight, then I believe it is okay to let her out whether she is crying or not. 7 am is actually really good for a puppy! I have clients tell me their dogs won't sleep past 3-4 am! As she gets older she likely won't want to play as much so she may sleep a little longer, but no guarantee.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem with Sadie! Unfortunately, puppies are very similar to babies in this respect - they often wake up early. There is often no way around this other than waiting for her to get older. The good news is, most adult dogs are happy to sleep later and will eventually adjust to your daily schedule - so be patient with her for now :) One thing that you could try is crating her in your bedroom, beside your bed - I'm not sure where you have attempted to crate her before, so I apologize if you've already done this. This generally prevents excessive whining or barking in the crate, because you are right beside her - so she shouldn't be lonely or upset. But, being in the crate will prevent her from being able to wander around, chase the cat, or find other things to do when she wakes up - so this is a good way of teaching puppies to lay quietly until it's time to get up, even if she is already awake.

4 am is way too early kiba! I can imagine your frustration. Is kiba needing to go outside to go potty? If he is make sure you are letting him out as late as possible the night prior and make sure he goes potty at that time. If he is asking for his breakfast that early than you could try feeding him a small meal before bed so he s not hungry so early. If it's just that he wants you to get up and play etc then exercising him more the evening before will help him sleep longer. Long evening walks, a hard play session right before bed etc. you could also try kennel training overnight to see if he sleeps better. hope this helps a little!

Puppies don;t always sleep as well as adults. You may try crating her over night. You can give her heavy exercise just before bed. You cannot encourage the behavior by playing with her in the middle of the night or stimulating her. Most puppies will outgrow this. I hope this helps.

Hello, and congratulations on your new puppy! I am assuming you have started potty training Max to go outdoors, not indoors on a pee pad? A puppy at 4 months should be able to hold his bladder about 4-5 hours overnight. This means that if you want him to go potty at 7am, you'll need to take him out for a pee around 2-3am. The good news is that over the next few months as he grows older, Max should be able to hold his bladder longer and longer, until he will be able to hold it for at least 8 hours overnight. It could be that bella has realized if she barks she gets attention from you all. She is barking to get taken outside or even just attention through the night. I would recommend trying to crate train her. This will allow her an area that is safe and only hers. The crate can be a really positive place . You can start off by putting her in it for short intervals and rewarding her going in and coming out. it is important to make the crate a happy place. You could also try just moving her to another room so she is not sleeping with you all.
