My 5-month-old puppy has a vulva pimple. Can I use Neosporin?

Pet's info: Dog | American Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 months and 9 days old | 13 lbs

My 5 month old cocker spaniel developed a small pimple on her vulva in the past 2 days. I keep her very clean (her paws and anal and vulva area since she is getting over dx of adult hookworm. Was treated with panacur. I noticed a few fleas on her also. PREVIOUS QUESTION SUBMITTED 30 MINUTES AGO. I don't know if this a bite from an ant? I put a tiny dab of hydrocortisone ointment on it but it increased twice the size (now 1/2 cm in diameter) anything I can put on it like Neosporin?

Did you mean to have a picture attached to your question? If so, unfortunately there was not one attached. Puppies often get “pimples/pustules. This is usually a skin infection called puppy pyoderma. However, other problems such as a bug bite are possible as well. A
Small amount of neosporin is unlikely to cause any harm at this time. Most mild
Cases of pyoderma will resolve on their own or with a medicated shampo. However more significant cases need antibiotic therapy. I would recommend that you monitor the area close for any change or other pustules to appear. If it doesn’t resolve in the next few days then I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

What can I put on my dog's face pimples if Neosporin isn't working?

I hate to hear that! You can try applying just a dab of coconut oil and rubbing it in very well. In general, keeping her muzzle very clean and dry may help. If the lesions don't clear up significantly within a week or so, I recommend to have her seen by the veterinarian. Sometimes antibiotics and anti-inflammatories are needed. You can also ask about pet safe medicated wipes that may be useful if routinely used. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

From the pictures and your description it looks as though Poppy may have a skin infection. This can occur due to allergies as well as in areas where skin folds or normal anatomy allow dirt and moisture to become trapped such as around the vulva. For minor irritation, the area can be cleaned with a mild antiseptic or dog shampoo. If you are noticing these lesions elsewhere or if Poppy is licking or chewing at the area, she should be seen by your veterinarian.

Why does my puppy have recurring pimples on her private parts?

It is likely a condition called [puppy pyoderma](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/staphylococcal-pyoderma-1). It is similar to acne in babies. Pyoderma is usually caused by *Staphylococcus* bacteria (or *Staph* for short). There is nothing to do about it in most cases. Typically, this condition will resolve on its own . If she licks it or if the condition worsens or spreads, have her physically examined by your veterinarian. Stubborn cases may require a course of antibiotics.

My spayed dog has fluid-filled pimples in her private area. Why?

It looks like a mild skin infection, possibly from the skin in that area staying moist and touching more than other areas on her body. Try keeping the area clean with a mild soap, making sure to completely remove any soap residue with a warm damp washcloth and apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment (without steroid, as steroids slow healing), rubbing it in well. Do this at least daily, and consider bathing her with an oatmeal based pet shampoo to soothe her skin overall. If this area doesn't improve significantly over the next few days, if it gets worse, spreads, if she starts itching or licking excessively, get her in to see your vet as this may be a sign of a an underlying problem that may need more extensive treatment.

It looks like a pimple, a minor skin infection. You can use a Benzoyl peroxide topical cream or an antiseptic cream in order to help it resolve quicker, but otherwise it should resolve itself without treatment.

Hello, sorry to hear about Jackie. It looks like he has some lip pyoderma. It would be ideal to put neosporin on it, however, dogs tend to lick this medication and ingestion of it could cause side effects. You could clean the area with skin sensitive baby wipes. If the area does not resolve within 3-5 days, then she may need to have oral antibiotics. Occasionally, this can occur secondary to allergies. Monitor the area for worsening, if you note any, then contact your veterinarian to have him evaluated. Hope this helps and best of luck.
