My spayed dog has fluid-filled pimples in her private area. Why?

This could be from her licking at the area when she was in heat (which is common). I would disinfect the area with and keep clean with a spray called Miconahex. This is a antimicrobial / antifungal spray that can treat superficial skin infections quite effectively. You can find this spray online quite easily. If you begin to notice any irritation after using the spray, discontinue immediately. If the skin condition worsens or does not resolve, I would recommend scheduling an appointment with a veterinarian to have this looked at. Additional medications may be needed to treat this. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). I'm wondering if the 'pimple' in the first picture is potentially part of her spay scar and a suture reaction if she was recently adopted and spayed. You may be able to feel some 'firm' tissue beneath this area if that is the case. It's also possible that this is a small skin mass that has become infected. Dogs can develop milia, but milia are most commonly seen when there is excess cortisol due to a disease like Cushing's. The milia do not typically require treatment but the underlying disease does. Cushing's is common in middle aged to older dogs and other signs include increased thirst, hunger and urination. I think it would be a good idea to have a veterinarian examine her skin to make sure treatment for an infection isn't necessary, and to discuss testing for Cushing's disease if she is showing any other signs.

That has nothing to do with the surgery or shaving. It is kind of like a pimple; a minor skin infection. From the pictures and your description it looks as though Poppy may have a skin infection. This can occur due to allergies as well as in areas where skin folds or normal anatomy allow dirt and moisture to become trapped such as around the vulva. For minor irritation, the area can be cleaned with a mild antiseptic or dog shampoo. If you are noticing these lesions elsewhere or if Poppy is licking or chewing at the area, she should be seen by your veterinarian.

The small pinkish pimples are pustules and are suggestive of some more recent infection, the darker ones are the same but slightly older lesions. It looks like a mild skin infection, which can happen quite easily in an rare that can get dirty on walk or when they lie. I would suggest to bathe the area gently with some salty water 2-3 times daily and dry it with a soft cloth or towel afterwards, and see if the pustules disappear and the other ones start to regress, it might take a few days. To make up some salty water, just add one teaspoon of salt per two cups of bolied hot water, then leave it to cool down. Use only when lukewarm, please make sure that you don't burn yourself or Obi while preparing this salty tea ! Hope this helps.
