My new puppy threw up, now won't eat. Vet says stress, should I worry?

Hi there and thanks for your post! I am sorry Miller is not feeling well. I would advise withholding food from Miller until tomorrow morning (he can have water). If he continues to vomit tonight or vomits tomorrow before or after breakfast or if becomes weaker tonight, I would take Miller into see his veterinarian. If you caught him chewing on something today, my concern is that he chewed up something else at an earlier time and may have a foreign body or toxicity. Stress can certainly cause vomiting and diarrhea in some situations but in a puppy that is used to being left alone, I am more concerned about foreign body, parasites or viral disease. If he is active and alert you can feed small frequent meals of his regular dog food (just a handful at a time every couple of house) if no vomiting then continue to monitor. But if he is depressed, won't eat or vomits up what he does eat then I strongly recommend a vet visit today. I hope Budleigh is feeling better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is certainly not that unusual in puppies and really in some adults as well as they adjust to a new environment. If she seems fine otherwise with a good activity level, I recommend you try a highly palatable diet such as the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends or potentially consider adding pieces of boiled chicken or dog grade gravy to make her current diet more palatable. This is likely going to work for you. If at some point, she appears to not be doing well, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Good luck!

Poor girl. She may have an internal illness that is making her not want to eat. Since it has been more than 24 hrs I would encourage you to take her to your vet to get checked out. She may have an infection, organ malfunction, or a severe stomach upset from something she ate. She will likely need medications through your vet to help her get back on her feet. In the meantime you can try offering her small amounts of Pedialyte non-flavored (diluted 50:50 with water) and small amounts of a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. Hello. Is she interested in any treats at all? If this is totally out of character for her, I do worry that there may be something amiss. Hello. If he's bright and alert and feeling well drinking water no vomiting and no diarrhea I would not be too concerned at this time. But if he refuses to eat tomorrow or shows any signs of lethargy loss of activity vomiting diarrhea, he does need to be seen as soon as possible. Hopefully he'll feel better in a day or so. Unfortunately, this is not normal behavior for a young puppy and is pretty concerning. At less than two months old, your puppy needs to eat regularly or he risks having low blood sugar, which can cause serious health problems. Vomiting is not typically caused by stress and all these signs make me worry about a more serious illness. Please have him seen by a veterinarian right away because his lack of appetite and vomiting are very serious.
