My dog is vomiting and has diarrhea. Stress or did he eat something?

This can be due to any number of causes such as stress, a diet change, eating something that didn't agree with him or an intestinal infection. If he is still not feeling well today, I would recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He may require some treatment to help him over the weekend. I hope this information helps!

As long as Tea is feeling fine I'm not overly concerned. Puppies get into lots of things so a day of vomiting and diarrhea can be ok. I'd cut back his food for today, make sure he has water and let him rest like you are doing. If he's not better in the morning then take him right in for an exam. Since he's so small and young if he doesn't improve quickly then treatment is needed so he doesn't get worse. They'll check a fecal sample for intestinal parasites, give medication for the vomiting and diarrhea, and if they feel it's a serious problem they may also do a blood panel, parvovirus test or X-ray. Chronic vomiting in dogs is pretty concerning and can be caused by gastritis, ulcers, foreign body obstructions, pancreatitis, and intestinal parasites. Other internal issues, for example kidney or liver disease, can make dogs nauseous as well. Sometimes, dogs will vomit yellowish liquid if they re extremely hungry and anticipating their meal. You can try feeding Urban a little later at night to see if this helps (this only applies if he eats meals rather than picking throughout the day). If Buddy seems off and is whimpering and vomiting, he may have something going on causing him discomfort. Because of his age, I would be suspicious of a viral infection, something he ate that he is having an indiscretion to or a foreign object he ate that is lodged somewhere in his intestines causing problems. Because there are multiple causes and it is difficult to determine what it is for sure, I would have a veterinarian examine Buddy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. Hello. I am a bit concerned that your veterinarian was not worried that Millie has not eaten anything in 24 hours. This may be stress, but if she does not eat anything by tomorrow, then I would revisit with your vet, & perhaps ask to purchase a critical care food that is administered easily by a syringe. You may need to feed your puppy for a few days to make sure she is getting some calories, & if there is no underlying illness, she should start eating on her own. Stress can certainly cause diarrhea in dogs. If Dex is eating and drinking normally, we will often recommend a bland easily digested diet consisting of ½ cooked white rice and ½ cooked white meat chicken (boiled without any skin or bones). If he does well with a bland diet and his diarrhea resolves, then you can slowly transition back to his normal diet over a few days. Diarrhea that continues for more than a few days, or is associated with blood in the stool, vomiting, lethargy or a poor appetite is a reason for a visit to your veterinarian. There are anti-diarrheal medications that your veterinarian can prescribe and they may also recommend a probiotic to help resolve the diarrhea.
