My puppy is sick and throwing up after a vitamin shot. Vet needed?

Vomiting and diarrhea have many causes including intestinal worms, inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. Usually, in puppies, we worry about intestinal parasites, infection (parvo/coronavirus), foreign body ingestion or dietary indiscretion. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound can be done to try to determine what is going on. Puppies should be dewormed starting at 2 weeks of age and then every 2-3 weeks. This should be done multiple times and should continue for 3-4 times after weaning. When puppies nurse, they continue to get infected with intestinal parasites from their mother. Good luck

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Kagome is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Kagome evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on anti-nausea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!

Poor guy. It sounds like he may be experiencing a severe vaccin reaction. We treat these with a steroid shot and antihistamine shot. You will need to take him to your vet for treatment for this. B/c of the severity of his condition it is unlikely anything over the counter will help him recover. He also should be tested for parvovirus since he is so young and this is likely his first vaccination. You can try force feeding him some boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese and 1-2 tsp of honey or karo syrup to keep his blood sugar up, until you can get him seen. Hello. It is not unusual for a puppy to feel a little unwell after receiving vaccinations, but these reactions rarely require treatment. Most symptoms will pass in 12-24 hours. If Baxter is otherwise feeling OK, or sleeping quietly, then leave him be. But if the vomiting is intractable, or he develops any diarrhea, quits eating & becomes significantly lethargic please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Coco may be stressed from the visit or having a mild reaction to the vaccinations. You can try to offer her a small meal of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice to see if this settles her stomach. However, if her vomiting persists or if any other signs of illness develop (like diarrhea, inappetance, or lethargy) I recommend having her examined by a veterinarian right away. There are many reasons why Koko could be vomiting. It can range from parasites to Parvo. It’s impossible to know what the cause is without a detailed history, a physical exam and testing for parasites and viruses. Puppies don’t have the reserves that adults and they do dehydrate and can have problems with low blood sugar which can be fatal if not treated. I recommend to have Koko visit his veterinarian to be examined. Feeding Koko a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and boiled white plain rice can help to settle the tummy. Smaller, more frequent meals are also easier on the tummy. I hope he starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.

Poor little Kitana! Pets can vomit for many reasons and it could have been related to the vaccines. If she is ill beyond 24 hours, then I recommend to have her seen by her veterinarian. I recommend to call her veterinarian and let them know what you saw at home. The doctor may want to administer diphenhydramine prior to her next round of vaccines just in case it was a vaccine reaction. Keep Kitana quiet today and monitor her closely.
