My 9-week-old puppy threw up after eating grass. Should I worry?

I am sorry Dozer threw up last night. Grass can definitely upset his stomach. I would make sure he doesn't eat anymore of it. As long as he is energetic and otherwise normal I wouldn't worry too much about a one time throw up. If this continues then I would recommend bringing him to a veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Joie! From your pictures Joie seems to be pretty sick. Causes for vomiting and lethargy in a young lab: foreign body ingestion where she ate something that is stuck in her stomach or intestines, a virus like Parvo virus especially if she is unvaccinated, intestinal parasites, toxins, etc. It is probably best to have her seen as an emergency today. You can try to fast her: no food (and no grass) for 12 hours. Hold on water for 4 hours and if no vomiting offer ice cubes. If she continues to vomit while being fasted she should see a Vet today. If the vomiting subsides then starting tomorrow do "sip and nibble" of water and a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals. Feed 3 cups total per day. If she restarts vomiting with food then she should see your Vet. Good luck!!

It's hard to say. Some dogs will eat grass or leaves because their stomach hurts, as it often induces vomiting. Some dogs just like to eat these things and it doesn't cause any harm. I think it is worth discussing with your vet, especially if this is happening more than just occasionally.

This could be secondary to gastrointestinal upset from many possible reasons such as dietary indiscretion or foreign body ingestion, among many other reasons. If he is otherwise doing well, it is likely to be something mild like dietary indiscretion causing him to have an upset stomach. Keep a close eye on him and make sure he is drinking water. If he does not look improved by tomorrow or gets worse, have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Good luck!

If Jordy continues to vomit, starts dry heaving, or is extremely lethargic, I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic tonight or first thing in the morning. If he is normal the rest of the night, give him a half his normal breakfast and monitor for more vomiting. If he does continue to vomit, he'll need to go to vet. Common causes of vomiting in puppies include foreign bodies, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, some metabolic disorders, and mild gastroenteritis if unknown origin. If he does end up needing to go to the vet, they will likely take some x-rays and maybe do a baseline blood work, and then treat him symptomatically if they are do not find a specific. Keep an eye on his stools - you may be seeing some diarrhea in the next day or two. I recommend feeding him small amounts of bland food today (white rice and boiled lowfat chicken). If you see any further vomiting, if his appetite decreases, or if diarrhea shows up, then I recommend bringing him in to the vet to be evaluated. He may need some supportive GI meds to turn around, or this could be the first sign of something more serious, such as a foreign body (something stuck in his GI tract), pancreatitis, etc. Hope this helps and he feels better soon!

This could be a number of things - parasites, a bacterial or viral GI infection, or even an intestinal blockage. At 2.5 months of age, Gus is especially at risk for parvovirus, a serious GI infection. We always worry about fluid loss in young puppies, so I would recommend getting him to a vet ASAP, to diagnose the cause of the vomiting, and start appropriate therapy.
