Is puppy vomiting and crate accidents normal after a parvo shot?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 19 days old

I gave my puppy a parvo shot yesterday and today she woke up vomiting its nothing excessive but i just want to make sure if thats normal she also went potty on her crate and she hasn’t had an accident till I brought her home maybe her stomach was feeling a little bad ?

Vomiting after a vaccination is not normal and is a sign of a potentially severe vaccine reaction. It sounds like the vomiting did not occur right after the vaccination, so it may not be related to the vaccination, but vomiting is not considered a normal vaccine reaction. If Cookie continues to vomit, does not eat, or does not seem to feel well, she should be examined by your veterinarian right away.

I would continue to monitor Cookie for now. You can see some mild vomiting and a fever (which would cause the shivering but so could pain from the injection), but if the vomiting continues, then you need to take her back into the vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Toby. Vomiting can indicate a vaccine reaction depending on how close it occurs in relation the vaccination. I recommend contacting his veterinarian. If there is a concern of him having reaction, then it will be recommended that he returns to the clinic for further treatment. If not, he could have experienced car sickness or an upset stomach due to something he ate. If he is coughing, then he may have an upper respiratory infection or have nasal irritation from the Bordetella vaccine. I hope this information helps!

Vomiting after a vaccination is not considered normal, so I would not wait to have him treated. Any time I have administered a vaccination and the animal then begins vomiting or exhibiting any other abnormal symptoms, I treat as a potential adverse vaccination reaction. I would recommend taking him back to the veterinarian that performed the vaccination to have him examined and treated for a potential vaccination reaction. This may have nothing to do with the vaccination but it would be best to have him examined and go from there. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! My 9-week-old puppy threw up in the car. Is it car sickness or parvo?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the food was thrown up mostly undigested this is likely more regurgitation. My suspicion is this is probably more just from car sickness. If Nittany is acting otherwise normal then I would suggest feeding her a small bland meal (boiled chicken and sweet potato) later today and then resuming her normal diet tomorrow. Dogs with parvo usually have both vomiting and severe diarrhea so I think it's unlikely this is what is going on with Nittany. However, if her vomiting persists or diarrhea, lethargy or inappetance develops then you should schedule a visit with a veterinarian.

Dog exposed to parvo, now vomiting. Is it parvo or just car sick?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Daisy. If she is fully vaccinated against parvo (and is up to date with her boosters), then she will be protected and there is no need to worry. If she is not up to date on her vaccines, then this is a concern. The incubation period is typically 3-5 days, so I would expect a week on, she would have had symptoms of it by now, but it can be up to 14 days. I suspect that it may be she is car sick. I can give you a home remedy for her that may help. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Coco may be stressed from the visit or having a mild reaction to the vaccinations. You can try to offer her a small meal of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice to see if this settles her stomach. However, if her vomiting persists or if any other signs of illness develop (like diarrhea, inappetance, or lethargy) I recommend having her examined by a veterinarian right away.
