Puppy staggering and not eating after vaccine. Is this normal?

Hi there. It sounds like Kozmo may have had a vaccine reaction. Usually the side effects wear off rather quickly if they aren't serious...if he continues to act strangely I would encourage you to take him in to see what's going on specifically-he may require bloodwork. Hope this helps!

If it is not the vet who vaccinated him make sure to let them know he had a reaction so they can note in his chart and report it to the vaccine company. I hope Theo feels better soon.

Hi. This is definitely not normal. I would be concerned she has episodes of low glucose, a neurologic condition she may have been born with, or another possibility is an infection that is affecting her neurologic system. I recommend she get a full blood panel, try another food to entice her to eat more, and have a full neurologic exam done by your veterinarian or a neurologic specialist. Having none of her shots does put infection high on the list.

Bloody stool and lethargy could be an adverse reaction to the vaccination. I recommend taking your puppy in to the veterinarian asap due to the high probability that he is having a severe reaction and needs immediate treatment to help stabilize his condition. While a dog can lose their appetite for around 24 hours after receiving their vaccines, it's not normal that Abby hasn't been eating right for the past couple of days. I would have her seen by a vet today for a health check to make sure she isn't experiencing a reaction to the vaccine.

The milk will not sit well on his stomach so I would stop offering that in the meantime. A vaccine reaction can cause vomiting, but it typically does not last so long. Was he given a deworming medication at the time of the vaccine? A high parasite burden can cause vomiting as they die off. Either way, he needs to be evaluated to determine the cause of his symptoms and how best to treat him. I hope this information helps!

Puppy's getting sleepy after their shots is a normal reaction to vaccinations. They can also have a low grade fever and/or one bout of vomiting/diarrhea normally that are no cause for concern. The concern arises when your pet is severely lethargic, not eating, non-responsive, pale gums, or excessive vomiting/diarrhea. If you notice any of these symptoms then it is best to take puppy to a vet asap for immediate care, because a mores serious vaccine reaction is occurring at that point.
