My dog isn't eating days after her first vaccine shot. Is this normal?

Good on you for getting Shaggy's shots, but I'm sorry he isn't eating! You can see a drop in appetite after getting the vaccines, but it should return within 24-48 hours. I would try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. If he refuses to eat this and still isn't eating tomorrow, then take him into the vet as this is abnormal. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Some poor appetite can be considered normal after vaccinations. Vaccines stimulate the immune system to help protect your pet from common diseases they could be exposed to. Vaccines can sometimes cause minor changes in appetite or behavior. Usually I tell clients some decrease in appetite and decreased activity can be normal for 24 hours but for any issues lasting more than 24 hours they should call me ASAP. Some of the major issues (although rare) associated with vaccine reactions are trouble breathing and anaphylactic shock. If you notice any trouble breathing, severe lethargy or swelling of the face or at the vaccine site you should contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. If the poor appetite is still an issue after 24 hours or If any other issues are going on contact your veterinarian ASAP.

I am very sorry to hear that Bella isn't acting like herself. If the cause of her mood change were due to a vaccine reaction, typically you would see changes in the hours after the shots were administered. In addition, side effects and reactions from these shots do not typically last more than 12-24 hours. My suspicion is that whatever is bothering Bella has nothing to do with the vaccines. If she is still eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping, I wouldn't be too worried for the moment. Continue to monitor her for any serious changes in her health. I'm sorry Milli isn't feeling well! It's relatively common for dogs to feel lethargic or sore after vaccines. It usually resolves on its own within 24 hours. If she has any vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling or hives I would take her to the vet right away. Otherwise, make sure she has access to water but I'd call your vet tomorrow if she's not back to normal by then.

It can be normal to vomit once or twice in the 24 hours following anesthesia but I wouldn't expect Sadie to be experiencing side effects from anesthesia at this point. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her if the vomiting and decreased appetite continue: it may or may not be related to her recent surgery. If she is on a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain medication like carprofen or meloxicam it would be best to discontinue the medication since these can sometimes cause stomach upset - your vet can prescribe a different pain medication if necessary.

It could be that Peppa isn't feeling well, and may be more lethargic than usual. I'm not sure if this started right after she got her shots or a few days later. If it happened a day or two later, this will not be related to getting her vaccines. Given that she is eating and drinking, I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Keep an eye on her for now, and if this behavior continues or she develops other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, or diarrhea, then take her back into the vet for an exam.
