My 9-week-old puppy squealed suddenly in the garden. Is it hurt?

Even though Stella didn't react when you were feeling her back and her legs she may have still had a soft tissue injury or bruising that is causing minor pain. If the behavior continues I'd recommend having her examined by your vet to make sure there is no injury to be concerned about.

It could be her back or hips were painful when she got up, and that's why she squealed, but the pain stopped when she started moving around. I would keep an eye on her for now, and if she continues squealing when she gets up, I would have her checked out by a vet. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck.

It could be Gypsy hurt herself when she slipped and that's why she howled afterwards. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps and Gypsy feels better soon!

It’s impossible to know without an exam if that episode was a bad dream or related to pain. Watch Orlando very closely for any repeated episodes, limping or reluctance to move. Once he wakes up, check his nails and make sure none are broken and that there aren’t any wounds on the feet. If you see anything questionable, have him seen by his veterinarian. It’s possible he got a toe nail stuck in the bed and it twisted and if the nails are long, get them trimmed. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

She may have landed wrong and "tweaked" her hip, knee, hock (ankle) or even a toe. As long as she is improving, you can monitor her at home. Restrict exercise to just leash walks for elimination (yes, tricky for a Beagle pup!). Avoid or prevent excessive running, jumping or rough play. Monitor for swelling, bruising or increasing lameness. See your veterinarian if necessary.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry that Beau isn't feeling well. Crying intermittently with no external injuries can be caused by a number of factors. If he is reluctant to walk or limping, then either a soft tissue injury in a joint/fracture/ or torn ligament is possible, however this you would expect to see some limping. Puppies can also get 'growing pains' and conditions of their joints, which affect all of their joints equally, so they are just reluctant to move. This can be incredibly painful and requires strong pain medication. The other common cause of crying out can be gastric pain. This can be caused by Beau getting into something he shouldn't have (bones, garbage, raw food, socks, underwear, etc) and his abdomen being very sorry. Usually with this you will see a reluctance to eat, possibly vomiting/diarrhea, and sometimes pain when you push on his abdomen. If this is the case I strongly suggest to stop the Deramaxx (hard on the gut, especially so young), and to have him re-checked by your vet and x-rays performed. An ultrasound may also be needed to make sure he doesn't have a peritonitis (infection in his abdominal cavity). He could also have a gastritis from worms, so making sure he is up to date on his worming is needed. A fever can also cause animals to feel unwell, so a full physical exam including his temperature is important. I would strongly suggest a re-visit with your vet, and they will likely need to do more tests, like an x-ray as mentioned, or if no answer is found there, or if Beau has a fever some bloodwork may be needed. Hello. It is difficult to say what might be going on with Bella, but one thing that comes to mind is a possible luxating patella, essentially, her kneecap pops out of place. She may outgrow this, or she may require surgery if it continues to bother her. Make sure you point out this behavior to your vet at her next set of vaccinations.
