Puppy fell and squeals when picked up. Is it an injury or behavioral?

I recommend that if this persists, you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for this possibility and treat him accordingly. I would bring him to be seen by a vet if he still is painful after his nap. They will be able to isolate the source (leg sprain or fracture vs injury to a rib vs. back pain) and get his medication to be more comfortable. If they are worried they may take an x-ray. Hope beau is feeling better soon!

There are many possible things which could have startled Gail such as standing on a thorn or twisting and spraining the leg. If lameness persists she should be assessed by a vet but I would continue to rest and monitor her for the next few hours to see if it resolves

Hello. It is difficult to say what might be going on with Bella, but one thing that comes to mind is a possible luxating patella, essentially, her kneecap pops out of place. She may outgrow this, or she may require surgery if it continues to bother her. Make sure you point out this behavior to your vet at her next set of vaccinations. Poor Joey. The two possibilities here are that it hurts or that he scares him when you pick him up. I'd lean towards pain from your description, but keep fear in mind since your vet didn't find any pain. One area pain can "hide" during a physical exam is in the spine or neck - vet's don't always check this area carefully. I would recommend a recheck visit, since it's still going on with no changes to see if anything is different on physical exam this time, and ask if doing a trial of pain meds for around 5 days would be appropriate. If pain meds don't help, experiment with never picking him up to see if that makes him happier. Good luck!

Based on his responses he could be in pain. When an animal Berks they are letting you know that something is either painful or fearful to them. I would encourage you to at least get him examined to make sure and absolutely certain that he doesn't have an internal injury that you just may not see on the outside. If he is just fearful it may take them a week or two at the most special if you work with him every day with enjoyable activities and positive reinforcement. Coax him out with some favorable treats and show him extra attention daily. Eventually he will come around, especially if you all had a close bond up until this incident. Best wishes!

Poor Peanut! Pain like this can be caused by a fracture, bone or joint infection, or nerve damage. I recommend having Peanut seen by a vet as soon as possible - they may recommend x-rays to determine the cause of the pain. In the meantime, you should keep Peanut as calm as possible to prevent further trauma. I hope all is well with Peanut!
