My puppy has a soft spot on her head. Is it normal or concerning?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Female

1 from a litter of 6 orphaned puppies that are now 4 and half weeks old , has a hole still in between her skull bones as though it hasn't fused like all the others have she is also half the size of the rest of the litter I was just wondering if I should be worried and if I should sepwrate her from the rest in case they injure her by jumping on it or playing

This is likely just a soft spot, aka an open fontanelle. As long as there isn't like open flesh wound there then I would just let her be a normal puppy and just be careful that she doesn't get dropped or fall off of anything. These will eventually close on their on but I would definitely have the vet take a look at it when she goes in for her first vet visit. If there is an open wound or flesh there, then I would have your vet take a look at it as soon as possible. I hope this helps!
