My pitbull has a soft indent on her head. Should I be concerned?

Hi I can see the swelling on Deijah's head. There are a few possibilities in a young dog : could she have bumped her head and now has a bruise swelling? Some skin cysts can look like this also. occasionally I see spider bites that develop into abscesses that can appear quickly. Does she seem painful when it is touched? If it's not going down in 1or2 days, you should take her to your vet for an exam.

Hello. It is difficult to tell if this is a cyst or a small tumor, but it is good to have this looked at soon. Iggy is young, so I am not so much concerned about this being very serious, but Pitbulls do seem to be a little more inclined to develop what we call button tumors. Most of these are not terrible dangerous, & if your veterinarian suggests having this removed & the tissue sent for pathology, I would do so. Often, with these small tumors, removal is curative. But knowing what this is also gives you a heads up as to whether or not other small tumors may arise from time to time. I would not panic over anything I have said, but wait to have this looked at. This is likely just a soft spot, aka an open fontanelle. As long as there isn't like open flesh wound there then I would just let her be a normal puppy and just be careful that she doesn't get dropped or fall off of anything. These will eventually close on their on but I would definitely have the vet take a look at it when she goes in for her first vet visit. If there is an open wound or flesh there, then I would have your vet take a look at it as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It’s hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like there is a skin infection on Noheas head. An infection could cause bumps and hair loss. A common cause of skin infections in young pit bulls is mange (demodex). These are microscopic mites that don’t cause scratching. I recommend taking Nohea to a vet for a close exam of her skin. They will need to look at cells under the microscope to diagnose this. They can then get her medications to treat the infection and mites if needed. Good luck and kisses to Nohea!

Without a picture it's very hard to say. You can post another question with a picture attached if you'd like. From your description, it could be a new mass, a bug bite, irritation from rubbing her nose under something like a door or fence, or it could be a bump related to a tooth abscess. The good news is that it doesn't sound like an emergency and she's not in pain, so your plan to go to her vet tomorrow is good. You don't need to do anything at home for the bump in the mean time. I would recommend that you have this lump checked out by a vet. There could be several different causes, but if this lump has been present for a while now it may indicate something very serious, like a defect in the skull. If it has only been there recently, it could be caused by swelling from trauma, insect bite, infection, among a few others. After thorough examination, the vet may recommend diagnostics such as x-rays or cytology to determine what is causing Pandora's lump.
