My puppy has a bump on his head that seems to be growing. What is it?

I would recommend that you have this lump checked out by a vet. There could be several different causes, but if this lump has been present for a while now it may indicate something very serious, like a defect in the skull. If it has only been there recently, it could be caused by swelling from trauma, insect bite, infection, among a few others. After thorough examination, the vet may recommend diagnostics such as x-rays or cytology to determine what is causing Pandora's lump.

Hello. This could just be an odd looking cyst or wart, but it does not look overly aggressive or worrisome to me. Just point this out to your veterinarian at Chainz's next veterinary visit so it is documented in the record. At some point, removal may be recommended, but definitely not at this point in time. It is usually cause by hitting the head on something hard or bu an insect bite. monitor it for 3-4 days to make sure the swelling is going down, if it doesn't please take him to your vet in order to get it checked.

A bump can be any number of things from an insect bite to infection/abscess, cyst or adnormal growth. If it is growing rapidly, is painful or changes in color or size quickly I would have Skookum checked by a vet.

First, great pictures and highlighting of the lump! This appears to be a fluid-filled lump. Usually puppies get these when they bang their head on something and then fluid accumulated under the skin. However, I do worry about congenital defects that could cause accumulation of CNS fluid under the skin. If Thor is otherwise acting and looking normal, then either way, it's not an emergency. If he is acting weird, then best to have a veterinarian check him out. If it was just a bump, then the swelling will start going down within a couple of days. If it continues to grow, then it would be concerning enough to make an appointment with a vet. An easy way to detect growth or shrinking is to draw around the edge to the swelling with a magic marker. It will look silly, but it's really easy to tell if the border of the swelling has moved. That's quite a lump! If it is growing rapidly or is painful, then Smoke should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER as soon as you can get him in. The same can be said if he is lethargic or unresponsive. If he is behaving normally and the lump is not bothering him, you can wait until tomorrow morning to have him seen by your vet.

At three years of age, the chance of a bump being something serious like cancer would be rare but there is always a chance. It could also be that Chicharito has a benign tumor. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope.
