My puppy is snorting with clear discharge. Is a vet visit needed?

I am sorry Snoopy is having this issue. It definitely can be a cold but there are other things it can be. It can be allergies or if it is one nostril that there is discharge it can be a growth. I recommend taking Snoopy to the veterinarian and having them listen to her to make sure there is nothing settled in her lungs and it is just an upper respiratory issue. Poor Daisy. If the discharge is just clear and not yellow or green, then this is likely a sign of allergic rhinitis. Something in the environment is causing her to have an allergic inflammatory response in her nasal passages. However, as long as the discharge remains clear she may get over this on her own over the next few weeks. Monitor her daily for any changes and have her seen by your veterinarian if things get worse (sneezing, infection type discharge, decreased appetite, etc). But hopefully she won't need to be seen and she improves on her own.

This is usually treated with antibiotics. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Your puppy may have pickd up a respiratory virus or bacteria in the park. This could be the beginning of kennel cough, even though she is not coughing yet. Observer closely, and should the discharge get cloudy or yellowish or if she gets a seriously bad cough, take her in to your vet for an exam. Kennel cough is usually self limiting, and does not need medications unless there is a fever or a seriously debilitating cough. She will also need to be seen by a vet if she gets lethargic, stops eating or drinking or appears obviously ill.

A stuffy nose and sniffles could be a signs of an upper respiratory infection. We could also have allergies or inhalation of a foreign body into the nasal passages. If this has been going on for a few days, the safest course of action is a vet exam. The vet may need to prescribe an antibiotic or antihistamine for your pup.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If this is a new thing then he could have allergies or an upper respiratory tract infection (URI). Most URIs are viral and run their course in 2 weeks. If he has always snored then it is likely normal for him. I would have him checked out by your Vet regarding the eye discharge which could be allergies or a conjunctivitis. I wish you the best
