Why is my 7-month-old puppy constantly sneezing? When to worry?

My 7 month old puppy is constantly sneezing on stop. What could this be caused by?

Your puppy may have an upper respiratory tract infection which can be common in young puppies because their immune systems aren't fully developed. He may need some antibiotics and/or antihistamines to help stop the sneezing.

The other cause of sneezing could be from a foreign body, like a piece of grass, that has become stuck in hos nose. If this is the case the sneezing will not resolve until it is removed.

I would recommend taking Roscoe to the vet to be checked out so he can be treated appropriately.

Hello! Roscoe's sneezing could be caused by an irritation in his nose (dust, pollen, other allergy), but it could also be a symptom of an upper respiratory infection. If roscoe has any nasal discharge or eye discharge along with his sneezing, a visit to the vet might be in order. It's probably not an emergency (especially if he is eating, drinking, and acting normally), but sneezing plus other symptoms could be something that needs to be treated (either supportively or with antibiotics). If he's just sneezing, the vet could also suggest ways to minimize it, either by removing the irritant (if possible) or by prescribing antihistamines. I do not recommend giving him anything over-the-counter without the advice of a veterinarian.

Hi there! It is likely Legend has picked up a respiratory infection. He will probably need a course of antibiotics which your veterinarian can prescribe for him after a physical exam. While most respiratory infections are somewhat mild-every now and then one progresses to make them very ill. Best to be seen soon to keep this from happening. My best to you both, hope this helps!

Dusty is a very handsome boy! Yes, it is possible that he could have allergies or a respiratory infection, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I would have him seen by a vet for this on Monday if he's still sneezing. Until then, only take him out long enough to go potty, keep him indoors and warm, make sure he keeps eating, offering him gently warmed wet food if it appears he's going off his food. Also make sure he's drinking plenty of water, and rest him. I hope this helps!

Rocco may have either an allergy, an infection or a foreign body in the nose (such as a grass seed). If the problem is severe or carries on for more than a week I would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it checked, otherwise just let it run it's course.

Why is my dog sneezing frequently, but seems otherwise normal?

Frequent sneezes can be caused by many things. If he s having an occasional couple of sneezes throughout the day he could have a minor inhaled allergy. If he is having more little fits of snorting sneezes these could be reverse sneezes - also often caused by inhaled allergens. If either of these are the case and the sneezes become more frequent you could contact your veterinarian for an antihistamine dose. If it is just occasional I wouldn't worry about it too much and I would just monitor. If Sanza is having fits of violent sneezes, he could have inhaled plant material or a foxtail that may be stuck in the nose. If this is the case I would have him evaluated by his veterinarian as soon as possible. If the sneezing progresses to nasal discharge or coughing he may have an upper respiratory infection. In this case I would also have him seen by a veterinarian.

It is not normal for dogs to have chronic nasal congestion at a young age. Would be concerned about upper respiratory infection that might need antibiotics. I would recommend taking Him to a veterinarian to make sure his lungs sound clear.

Poor Roxy! I can definitely see the dry discharge from both nostrils. You’re right in saying that this can be caused by an upper respiratory infection. In most cases these infections cannot be transmitted to people or from people to dogs. These are very common in dogs, and can easily be treated with antibiotics prescribed by a veterinarian. Unfortunately, nasal discharge can be caused by several other diseases such as a nasal foreign body or mass, or even pneumonia. Your vet can do some blood work and x-rays to determine the exact cause of Roxy’s nasal discharge. You should have her seen immediately if she begins acting lethargic, loses her appetite, or you believe she’s having trouble breathing.

Hi there. Sneezing could be caused by allergies, or an upper respiratory infection. If he's acting fairly normal otherwise (eating and drinking fine, active, etc.) you could opt to monitor him for now and see how things go for the next few days. The problem may resolve on its own, similar to when we get a minor cold or allergy flare-up. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if your pup develops other symptoms such as coughing, thick green or yellow nasal discharge, or begins acting very lethargic or not eating, then I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian for treatment.
