My 6-month-old puppy sleeps a lot, eats less, and snores. Is he sick?

It sounds like Max is not very well, he might be suffering from worm infestation or possibly from a gastrointestinal virus. I strongly advise taking him to the vet as soon as you can in order to get it him checked, treated and when he is back to health- vaccinated as well.

Based on your description it is likely mild allergies causing some nasal drainage. Over time allergies can also cause rhinitis in pets, which presents as snorting (stertor) sounds. If things don’t improve to seem to be bothering Remus your vet can prescribe some antihistamines to try or even some allergy medications. Secondary bacterial infections can also develop which typically cause decreased appetite, a low grade fever sometimes and yellow or geeen drainage from the nose. If you see those symptoms then it’s best to get him treated soon with a short course of antibiotics. Otherwise you may be able to wait things out to see if his allergies clear up. If the problem gets worse or she starts having trouble breathing, I recommend to seek immediate vet attention. If Pudding seems fine, not having trouble breathing, eating drinking fine, playing as usual, active you could strictly monitor her and wait for the vet appointment next week. I am sorry to hear about Dex. It sounds like he could be sick and need veterinary care. If he is breathing strangely this could potentially be a sign of a respiratory (lung)infection or a problem with his upper airway (such as his nose or the back of his throat). Being dopey/down and sleepy can also be signs of an illness. I would recommend bringing Dex in to his vet for an exam. They can use a stethescope to listen to his heart and lungs to check for abnormalities, feel his neck and look in his nose and throat. Depending on their exam findings they may recommend testing such as an x-ray or blood work to check for a cause of his symptoms. Best of luck to you and Dex!

Sometimes after dental extractions they can develop a connection between the nasal and oral cavities called a fistula. This can allow oral cavity food, bacteria, saliva, etc. to enter the nose which can sometimes lead to these signs. Often times there may be nasal discharge as well. As well there are other post anesthesia problems that can occur less frequently. Since this sounds like a notable change post dental i would have it evaluated by your family vet. They can look at the extraction sites and do a thorough oral exam (sedation likely required) as well as check for normal airflow via the nose and normal airway function. If you think the sleeping a lot is new as well then this could be related or some other issue. Rechecking some bloodwork will likely be recommended as he is an older pet that underwent anesthesia. In terms of the appetite, this is sometimes not uncommon in puppies when they are in their new environment. I recommend that you continue to monitor him for now, especially if you just got him. If these symptoms of not eating well and sleeping a large portion of the day do not improve, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. Poor Pocholo! It definitely sounds like he isn't feeling well for some reason. Unfortunately, these symptoms are very vague and could be caused by almost any type of illness or injury, so there's no way to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him. I would recommend taking him to the vet for a check-up as soon as you are able to - he/she can do some blood work or other testing if needed to help determine what's wrong and get him started on appropriate treatment for the problem.
