My 9-week-old puppy is sick and trying to throw up. Should I induce vomiting?

It sounds as Snowball is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

He is too small for any over the counter medication. If the vomiting continue through the night you will need to find an ER clinic to treat him. If the vomiting is stopping, then it is fine to monitor him as he may have just eaten something he wasn't supposed to. You can give him a small amount of honey or karo syrup in about an hour to help maintain his blood sugar since has no food in his stomach to do so.

If Autumn is attempting to vomit without producing anything I’d recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian right away. This can be a sign of gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV) also known as bloat which is a life threatening emergency. While it would be unusual for a dog as young as Autumn to develop GDV her breed is predisposed, and it would be safest to see a vet. They can take an x-ray which would diagnose the disease or look for an obstruction - if she doesn’t have this problem they can prescribe medication that could help with nausea.

Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. This could be a number of things - parasites, a bacterial or viral GI infection, or even an intestinal blockage. At 2.5 months of age, Gus is especially at risk for parvovirus, a serious GI infection. We always worry about fluid loss in young puppies, so I would recommend getting him to a vet ASAP, to diagnose the cause of the vomiting, and start appropriate therapy.

This is definitely concerning - if your pup is not current on her booster vaccines, I would be very worried that she may have parvo. She may also have an upset stomach due to something she has eaten. If she is acting normal otherwise, you can try withholding food for the next 12 hours to help settle her stomach, then offer some plain boiled chicken and white rice. If she continues to vomit even though you aren't feeding her, or if she is acting lethargic or having any other symptoms, then I would recommend having her seen tonight by an emergency vet if possible as she may have a serious problem.

There could be many things that are causing this in Loki. Less likely a foreign body especially since he bounces back right after vomiting. It can be viral related or just a gastrointestinal upset. We always are concerned about Parvo in an unvaccinated puppy since he is only 9 weeks but this is less likely if he is energetic and has no diarrhea. He can always have intestinal parasites especially in a young puppy. I would recommend a stool check, deworming, a bland diet and an antacid as long as everything else is ok.
