My 7-week-old puppy is vomiting, alert but not playful. Should I worry?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 20 days old | 3 lbs

About an hour ago my 7 week old puppy began vomiting. He has done so three times now. It is mostly undigested food but does have fluid content. He doesn’t seem to have a fever and there is no diarrhea. Should I be concerned, how can I make him more comfortable. He is alert but not playful.

He is too small for any over the counter medication. If the vomiting continue through the night you will need to find an ER clinic to treat him. If the vomiting is stopping, then it is fine to monitor him as he may have just eaten something he wasn't supposed to. You can give him a small amount of honey or karo syrup in about an hour to help maintain his blood sugar since has no food in his stomach to do so.
