Why does my 6-week-old puppy have runny poop after hot dog treats?

It is very common for puppies to have diarrhea. This can happen with intestinal parasites, infectious diseases such as parvo virus, change in diet or even stress from the change in homes. It's possible that he also picked up and ate something off the grass that upset his system. If he's normal otherwise (no vomiting, good appetite, normal activity level) you could start by giving him plain boiled chicken breast and plain white rice in a 1 to 1 ratio. You can also add a small amount of pumpkin puree as the fiber can help firm up the stools. If the diarrhea continues or he becomes ill, starts vomiting, acting lethargic, or doesn't want to eat, I would strongly recommend taking him to a veterinarian right away. They will most likely want to do a fecal exam to check for parasites, a parvo test to check for this very serious illness and may even do blood work and x-rays to look for evidence of a stomach or intestinal blockage. This is very common in puppies since they like to chew on and swallow things they shouldn't.

We can have diarrhea due to stress (of a move to new home) or diet changes, however in young dogs we also worry about intestinal parasites (both worms and Protozoa that aren't killed by deworming) and in some cases depending on vaccine status parvovirus. For this reason it is best to have your pup checked at the vet and bring a stool sample for them to test. Until then you can pick up a probiotic for dogs at the vet or pet store and try feeding plain cooked white rice and boiled shredded chicken breast for a day or two.

If the diarrhea does not clear up on it's own within 24-38 hours then he should see a vet for a fecal test. I doubt he would have that much diarrhea from some deli Turkey but if it is, the diarrhea should clear up on it's own.

I would recommend switching the diet that has more fiber and that might agree with her a bit better. If after switching the diet and treats, she is still having problems with her poop, I would recommend bringing a poop sample to your veterinarian and have it tested for parasites. I hope this helps! That could cause diarrhea depending on if it had any sort of flavoring/coating. With a puppy that young diarrhea could also be caused by G.I. parasites such as roundworms as well as any dietary changes which is common when they go to a new home. Alternatively diarrhea in puppies could be an early sign of parvovirus. If the diarrhea continues, becomes bloody, or Moose stops eating he should go to the veterinarian for exam.

Poor guy. He may be stressed out from being in a new environment. Offer him som boiled plain chicken and rice to see if you can entice him to eat. Also adding in 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in his food can help firm his stool if it is stress related. Continue to monitor him for the next 24 hrs for any change. It may take him a day or two to get acclimated to you. However, if he goes beyond 24 hrs without eating and seems lethargic or sick, its best to take him to your vet for a wellness check. If a dog is going to suffer a vaccine reaction, it typically occurs the same day as the vaccination. So this is likely unrelated. He may be experiencing GI upset secondary to all the new treats. I would stop those for now. Being so young and small, he should see his veterinarian if symptoms persist. In the meantime, encourage him to eat and drink small amounts. It will be easy for him to become dehydrated at his size. I hope this information helps!
