My 7-week old puppy has runny diarrhea after eating deli turkey. Why?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He may be showing signs of dietary indiscretion which can happen from eating something that does not sit well in the stomach. Clinical symptoms that can occur include inappetence, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Sometimes this resolves on its own. However, sometimes this does require some form of therapy which is mostly supportive in nature. Since he has developed diarrhea, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to prescribe an anti-diarrhea medication. Congratulations ok the new puppy. There are many chases if diarrhea in a young puppy. Sudden diet change, GI parasites, eating food that irritates their stomach (such as the hot dogs), or something more serious like parvo or distemper virus. diarrhea and get the appropriate treatment. If he is eating and otherwise acting playful, I would recommend you stop feeding him the hot dog treats and add canned pumpkin to his diet to help firm up his stool. If he is not feeling well, I would recommend you have Rosco seen soon by a veterinarian to help determine the cause of his

Jordy is very handsome! Because turkey is high in fat (especially if fed when cooked with the skin on) I'd be concerned that Jordy has a degree of gastroenteritis (stomach and intestinal inflammation) secondary to eating turkey. He could also have a more severe issue like pancreatitis or bacterial overgrowth. If Jordy is otherwise acting normally, I'd recommend a small bland meal of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice in a few hours. However, if he continues to vomit or have diarrhea, acts lethargic, stops eating or drinking then he should be examined by a veterinarian. Because his digestive issues have been going on for a few days it's likely he will need prescription medications like Flagyl or Cerenia to help treat. The longer the diarrhea and vomiting continues the more I would become concerned that Jordy may become dehydrated, so it's always best to err on the side of caution and see a veterinarian sooner rather than later. Do you mean really runny poop? If he has watery diarrhea, I would strongly recommend to have a vet look at him. Being so young and small, he could easily get dehydrated despite drinking water. Diarrhea can be from several things like parasites, a change in diet, viral infections like parvo, toxins and much more. You can try to feed him some plain boiled boneless skinless chicken and white rice to see if this settles his tummy. If he isn’t improving, I would have your vet take a look at him. This can cause pancreatitis in a small dog such as your Puppy. If he starts excessive vomiting and has a stomach ache then bring him in to your veterinarian immediately for treatment. Dogs are scavengers so he could be fine. I definitely would monitor him closely and seek veterinary care right away to prevent a serious problem if he seems ill.
