My puppy has red eyes and is underweight. What could be wrong?

Dogs, cats and some other animals have a third eyelid which helps provide extra protection and lubrication to their eyes - could this be what you are seeing while he is sleeping? Simba's third eyelid appears to be in normal positioning in the photos, although if it is staying up after he wakes up, becomes swollen, if he begins squinting or pawing at his eye, if the white of his eye becomes red or he begins having discharge from his eye, I would recommend taking him in to the vet right away as this may indicate a problem with his eye. It sounds like you are feeding him often, which is good. I am not familiar with Milk Daliya or Chapatti. Make sure you are feeding him commercial AAFCO-approved puppy food and look at the instruction on the bag to make sure you are feeding him enough food for his age and body weight. If he is still not gaining weight despite feeding him appropriately, he could have another problem like parasites or a metabolic issue. I would recommend seeing your vet to make sure they are not finding any evidence of these problems. Simba is so cute, I wish him all the best!!

I recommend taking Shinzo to a vet so they can look at his stools under a microscope. It is likely he has intestinal parasites and they will need to know which ones to get him on the correct medications. Hi there! I am so sorry Simba is not feeling well. From the picture, it looks like the white part of his eye (called the sclera) is very red. There are many reasons why his eye could be red. He could have a corneal ulcer (a scratch on his eye caused my trauma or dry eye), his could have conjunctivitis (inflammation of the tissue around the eye, caused by allergies or bacteria) or glaucoma (high pressure inside the eye) or something systemic causing these issues. I recommend going to the Emergency Clinic and seeing a veterinarian sooner rather than later if you are worried. Typically, a veterinarian will performed a full physical exam and ophthalmic (eye) exam. This includes a schirmer tear test (to determine if he has dry eye), a fluorescein stain test ( to determine if he has a corneal ulcer), sometimes the vet will check the pressure in the eye too. I also recommend seeing a vet ASAP if Simba has change in color or texture of the eye, any increase of green or yellow mucus discharge (may indicate infection), an increased pain, holding eye shut or a sudden squirt of clear liquid may indicate a ruptured ulcer. He should not be this thin. I would be very worried about some underlying disease condition that is preventing him from either being able to eat the food, or from being able to absorb the food. Possible causes are GI parasites (worms, giardia, coccidia, etc.), exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), other GI absorbtive disorders (IBD, GI lymphoma, etc.), partial obstruction or foreign object in the gut, persistent right aortic arch or hiatal hernia causing vomiting/regurgitation, food allergies, etc. I would try feeding him boiled rice with boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts, as well as a high quality canned puppy food. I would also strongly recommend getting him to a vet where I would discuss a fecal test, a deworming trial, x-rays or preferably ultrasound, testing for EPI depending on the quality of his feces, and x-rays of the chest to look for congenital malforations there. From these pictures, Milos eyes seem normal. However, if you are concerned you can have your veterinarian perform an ophthalmic exam to be sure there is no problem. With regard to the diarrhea, this could be due to a bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection or it could mean that Milo ate something he should not have eaten. You can try putting Milo on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for a few days. However, if the diarrhea does not resolve, you will need to have him examined by your veterinarian.

Not sure if the red eyes may be related to the constipation and vomiting, but these signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.
