What's this raised circular growth on my 5-month-old puppy's arm?

Thanks for the image. That could be an area of trauma or irritation. It may also be some localized infection (bacterial or fungal) or maybe a papillomatous growth (wart). If he is licking or chewing at the area, place an e-collar (cone) on him and schedule an exam with your veterinarian. If the spot is not bothering him and he is behaving normally otherwise, you can choose to monitor it at home for rapid change or growth, bleeding, discharge or discomfort. Should any of these symptoms develop, an exam with your veterinarian would be required to definitively diagnose the underlying cause. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis.

Histiocytomas are pink hairless, button like growths commonly found on the limbs of young dogs. They spontaneously regress on their own in 2-3 months. They tend to ulcerate before they regress. If the growth increases in size rapidly or Odie keeps traumatizing it or it doesn't resolve in a reasonable time frame consider surgical removal and biopsy. It could be a cyst, papilloma, histiocytoma, or a pustule. You could have her examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to diagnose and then determine if treatment is needed Papillomas and histiocytomas are common in young dogs and usually resolve with no treatment.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. In a young dog these are often a little cyst or a mass known as a histiocytoma. These may grow a little bigger, but eventually go away on their own after a couple of months. I think it would fine to just monitor this for now. If grows rapidly, or breaks open, or has any other dramatic changes, then it's best to have your vet examine Capone in order to definitively diagnose the cause of this and provide the necessary treatment. This may be a small skin tumor, a reaction or callus to a bite wound or cyst. In such a young puppy, any skin tumor like that is unlikely to be cancerous and certain kinds go away without any treatment. If it does not bother her you can continue to monitor it for any changes. If it bothers her or gets larger, then she will need to be seen for treatment. If it persist for longer than 2 months then I would get it seen.

Chloe is adorable! The lump on her face could be due to a number of issues, including a benign or malignant mass, cyst, granuloma, among others. Given her young age, a benign mass like a histiocytoma seems most likely, but the only way to definitively determine the cause of this lesion is through a fine needle aspirate. This procedure is performed by drawing a few cells from the lesion with a needle so that the sample can be examined microscopically. From there, the vet will be able to provide more information as to whether it is better to monitor the lesion (histiocytomas typically go away without intervention within 3 months) or surgically remove it.
