My 7-month-old puppy has a neck bump. When should I worry?

This lump in your puppy’s skin is probably nothing to worry about. It could be from an insect bite or sting or may be a reaction to a vaccine he had in that area. Keep an eye on it for now. If it becomes larger, painful, or red, then take him to your vet right away. Or if he starts acting lethargic, vomits/has diarrhea or stops wanting to eat, you should take him to be checked out. The best thing to do since it does not bother him is monitor the growth. If it changes or get larger or seems painful then I would have it checked immediately. If it does not go away after 2 months then I would have it checked. It may be a cyst or abscess or tumor.

Poor baby! This could be a serious problem like a bacterial infection caused by strep called strangles or just a simple infection. I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him soon before it gets worse. This can be easily treated if caught early. I hope this helps!

It could be a cyst, a wart, or some other benign or malignant growth. The only way to know for certain what a bump is is to take a sample of cells with a needle or biopsy for examination under a microscope. If it seems to bother your dog or appears to be growing rapidly, be sure to have this lesion checked out in the next week or two. Otherwise, if your dog isn't bothered and the lesion doesn't seem to be changing much, I would recommend having it checked out by a vet in the next couple of months.

Pictures can be deceiving but it appears to be a circular, raised mass with a slight broken surface. In young pups a benign growth known as a histiocytoma can develop which resolve over time. All lumps should be checked physically by your vet to rule out other possible options such as infections , abscess or tumour

This may be a small skin tumor, a reaction or callus to a bite wound or cyst. In such a young puppy, any skin tumor like that is unlikely to be cancerous and certain kinds go away without any treatment. If it does not bother her you can continue to monitor it for any changes. If it bothers her or gets larger, then she will need to be seen for treatment. If it persist for longer than 2 months then I would get it seen.

I recommend you have Houdini evaluated by your veterinarian for a test called fine needle aspirate which is an easy, quick and pain-free procedure which in the majority of cases will help reach a diagnosis to identify what the best course of action is based on the findings. In some cases, a biopsy is needed for a diagnosis. If it truly is benign then removal is not necessarily recommended. However, if it is malignant and it has not spread to other locations, then surgical removal is recommended. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign.
