My puppy poops a lot, but his stool is normal. Why is this happening?

Frequent bowel movements are not necessarily abnormal. They should have a firm consistency, and not be like diarrhea. I would recommend that you have him on a large breed puppy food to help support his rapidly growing bones. You can try a different brand of food and see if that helps decrease the stool frequency.

Hello. Probably not. Exercise can & will facilitate bowel movements, & the faster stool moves through the bowels, the less water is absorbed making the stools a little softer. This may be just normal for your pup. If anything changes, of course discuss this with your veterinarian, but if everything else is OK, I would not be too worried. Yes it is likely the extra fiber. No worries here whatsoever. Some puppies do poop quite a bit and 2-3 times a day is normal as long as the poop is solid. I am not sure what you are feeding but you should pick a high quality food that is easily to digest. Some of the lower quality foods will cause dogs to defecate more because the food is not very digestible. If he is having diarrhea then have your vet test a fecal sample for parasites.

Producing what seems like a lot of stool is not likely due to eating too much. A dogfood that is high in fiber or filler will generally cause more stool production. There is a brand called Royal Canin that is really high quality and low residue and most dogs will have a decrease in stool production. I recommend to try this diet.
