Is it safe to take my 3-month-old puppy to a pet store before shots?

Socialization in controlled environments is good (such as puppy classes where all puppies must show proof of vaccination) or with friends that you trust to have their dogs vaccinated. I would not recommend going to public parks or pet stores until 1 month after the last vaccination (usually at 16 weeks of age).

Unfortunately, Maximus is not fully vaccinated at this point, so he should not be going outside. Depending on your state, he can be fully vaccinated by 12 or 16 weeks. If this was his first round of shots, he will need a booster in 2-4 weeks and then his Rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks as well as his last booster. Maximus should have minimal contact with other dogs (even where other dogs have gone to the bathroom) as you can’t be sure they are not carrying any of the viruses that Maximus is not vaccinated for that can make him very sick. I know it is difficult to keep a large active puppy inside, but your vet can work with you to have Maximus fully vaccinated in a reasonable amount of time.

It is okay to bring her outside inside a carrier, but she is not yet ready to interact with other dogs or walk around in places where other dogs have been. The vaccinations you would give a puppy does not protect against any human diseases he may catch (like a flu virus). The vaccinations are for dog diseases. I strongly recommend you start the vaccinations for Coco. They should have been started at 8 weeks of age. It is best not to untilmbis shots are current. The other dogs being vaccinated simply protects them, it does not protect yours. They can still be exposed or carriers for disease without being affected themselves

This won't be a problem unless his puppy comes with Kennel Cough. Kennel cough has multiple different etiologies so the vaccination doesn't always protect but if Hooch does get kennel cough the symptoms would be less severe. As long as he has had the puppy and the puppy is not sick I would let them interact. There is always a risk of transfer of disease and if you notice anything then I would recommend taking Hooch to the veterinarian. If your son's puppy has not seen a vet or they do not know if he is healthy then I would recommend waiting until the first visit to the veterinarian to make sure the puppy was healthy. It is possible, although rare, for people to bring infectious agents into a home on shoes, clothes etc which a pup is not fully protected against until after the course has been completed and onset of immunity is generally a week or so after full vaccination. Similar to newborn children, general precautions of clean clothes and shoe, washing hands and avoiding contact with any owners of pets who have recently been unwell would be sensible. Do not take puppy to public areas or parks or mix with any dogs which are not fully vaccinated with up to date boosters.
