Why is my puppy's poop orange and popcorn-like after eating candy cane?

I'm really glad to hear that Mugi is still eating and acting normally! Stool color can change with any different food (not even just orange foods) as a result of how the bile and gut bacteria shift in response. I definitely understand your concern because finding stool with orange and greenish coloration can seem a bit disconcerting. The good news is that there really isn't anything you need to worry about since Mugi otherwise seems so normal. Just continue to keep an eye on her and any other changes to her stool color. However, if she becomes lethargic, experiences a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, or changes in her water consumption/urine volume, then it's worth taking a trip to the vet for evaluation to rule out other medical issues. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely the pumpkin made his stool that color and pumpkin is not harmful to dogs. However that stool looks very watery. If it continues I recommend having his stool checked by a vet for intestinal parasites. good luck and kisses to Creature!

The red spots may just be from something she ate causing an enteritis. Since she is otherwise acting normal and eating normally then you could continue to monitor her. If the problem continues or you notice additional clinical signs then she needs to be examined and treated by a vet.

Hi and thanks for your post! The orangish color of Chloe's loose feces may be caused by what she ate recently. I see a part of a corn cob (?) which could explain the yellow-orange color. It is likely caused by something she ate recently and I wouldn't worry too much unless she starts to have diarrhea, vomiting or decreased appetite or if you notice the feces are still orange-yellow present after a few days. Poor Kai! You are correct to be concerned. Diarrhea could be caused by toxin ingestion, parasites, change in diet, infectious diseases, blockage in the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingestion of a foreign body (such as a piece of the bones you mentioned), or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. I recommend you make an appointment to take Kai in to the vet, and take in a fecal sample from Kai when you go. Your vet will likely want to test the sample to see what kind of parasites Kai may be dealing with so that they can be treated for accordingly. I recommend that you avoid feeding bones, antlers, and similar objects. Make sure with anything you feed Kai that you are able to easily dent the surface with a fingernail, as anything harder than that could lead to fracturing of the teeth or blockage of the gastrointestinal tract.

It should resolve as long as she stops getting into the trash and litter box. You could feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for a few days and then transition to her regular food. If her clinical signs persist then she needs to be treated by a vet.

The ASPCA Poison Control does not show any evidence that poppy seeds are toxic to dogs. Sophia could have developed some upset stomach from eating this muffin, but given that 24 hours have passed without a sign, she should be ok. As for the bright pink in her stool, it's possible that ingredients in the muffin caused this color change, but it could also be blood. Keep an eye on her stool, and if you keep seeing this color in Sophia's stool, then I would have her seen by a vet.
