My cat can't walk, eat, or drink. What's wrong and what should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 30 days old | 0.2 lbs

My cat came up to the steps the other night he is unable to walk. He has yet to use the bathroom or anything. Won't eat or drink. He has no puncture wounds on him either.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! So sorry to hear about Jack. Cute name. He sounds very weak especially if he is not eating or drinking. Many things could be going on such as pain, intestinal worms, fever from many sources - infection, inflammation, etc. Kittens commonly develop upper respiratory infections due to viruses but can then develop secondary bacterial infections. It's best to take him to your veterinarian right away so they can perform a physical exam including his vitals to see if he has a fever. Once they perform that, they can advise fecal tests, blood tests, or x-rays to help them determine what is causing him problems. I hope Jack gets well soon.
