Why is my 1-month-old puppy not eating, breathing hard, white gums?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 6 days old | 1lb

My one month old boy puppy Bug has not been eating from mom or wet food. He seems to be having trouble breathing . His gums are white . I went and got baby formula with Iron in it to help but it doesnt seem like its doing anything . i wonder if he has something in this throat i dont have the money to get to a vet. please help him

Hello, sorry to hear about Bug. It is difficult to tell what could be going on from your description but likely associated causes could include infections with viral diseases such as parvo, congenital abnormalities such as an abnormal heart or a liver shunt, problems with his bone marrow, or even a low blood sugar. This could require further evaluation by your veterinarian.

In the interim, a simple thing to try now is to rub Karo Syrup on his gums to treat for low blood sugar. If this helps, then you should feed Bug more often. If it makes no change, then he should be evaluated immediately.

I'm sorry to hear that your pup isn't doing well. I recommend taking him to an emergency clinic right away for evaluation. His blood sugar could be low, he could have a liver issue that is allowing toxins to build up in his system, he could have a congenital issue with his digestive tract, or something else entirely. His vet will likely do an exam, draw a bit of blood, and maybe take x-rays. I hope he's feeling better soon!

I am sorry Boba is not feeling well. At that young of an age he most likely needs soften kibble with warm water or you can try can puppy food. Typically dogs are weaned at 5 weeks so 4 weeks might be a little young. i would recommend trying to stay away from people food. If Boba gets use to eating people food he might never want to eat dog food. If he is not acting right or seems sick at this young of an age he really needs to go to a vet. In young dogs parasites, infection and viral disease are all possible and he should really be examined to determine why he is ill. i hope that helps
