Why won't my 9-week-old puppy eat or drink after a food change?

Oh no, poor Pixie! It's very concerning that she hasn't been eating and drinking as well as not being fully vaccinated. There is alway a chance that she picked up an illness from another dog. When a young puppy isn't eating, it's time to see a vet as soon as possible. If Pixie still isn't eating and drinking by the morning, take her into a vet right away. Tonight, try to tempt her to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice.

It could just be an off day for Kira, and she may have an upset stomach. Given that she is eating a little bit and still drinking water, I'd keep an eye on her for now. If she stops eating altogether, she keeps eating very little for the next 24 hours, she stops drinking water, she becomes lethargic, or she develops other signs such as vomiting and diarrhea, I would take her into the vet. Dixie is absolutely adorable! I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian. It is very concerning that she is barely eating and is not as active as a puppy should be. I recommend to have Taffy examined today by the veterinarian. Young puppies should have big appetites and are highly adaptable. I am concerned Taffy is sick and this is why she is not eating or drinking. I recommend to have her examined today and checked for parasites and maybe even parvo virus. I hope she feels better quickly.

Sometimes puppies can have a slight decrease in appetite when they first come home since it is a big adjustment, however it sounds like you've had her a few days. Given her age and her breed I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have low blood sugar, parasites, or another medical problem affecting her appetite. If she also seems weak, lethargic or disoriented you should see an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. She is adorable!

Issues with the teeth, gums, or mouth can cause pain while eating. Of course there are other medical conditions that can cause decreased or lack of appetite that will need to be ruled out with her veterinarian. You can try softening the food down with water and heating it up a bit to bring out the flavor and entice her to eat. If she still doesn't want to eat, then please take her in to see her vet as soon as you can.

If she seems fine otherwise with a good activity level, I recommend you try a highly palatable diet such as the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends or potentially consider adding pieces of boiled chicken or dog grade gravy to make her current diet more palatable. This is likely going to work for you. If at some point, she appears to not be doing well, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Good luck!
