My puppy isn't eating much since we moved. Is this normal?

However, this should subside and should not last very long. I would entice her appetite by adding things like boiled chicken, dog grade gravy, lean meats, among others. If she is still not eating after a few days, check in with a veterinarian to make sure there is not a medical reason for her to not be eating. Good luck and have a great day!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In my experience, this process can take up to 1 week. However, while decreased appetite is common, it usually does not last that long. If this appears to last longer than 3 days, I would recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Make sure that she is drinking water at least as if not, she could become dehydrated. If not drinking water, have her evaluated sooner. Good luck and have a great day!

In terms of the appetite, this is sometimes not uncommon in puppies when they are in their new environment. I recommend that you continue to monitor him for now, especially if you just got him. If these symptoms of not eating well and sleeping a large portion of the day do not improve, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. If Chewbacca is still active and drinking and not having vomiting or diarrhea, I would give him more time. Movin can be stressful and it isn't necessary for dogs to eat every day. I know you want him to eat but he may need to acclimate to the new place before he decides to eat. If he is acting ill, I recommend taking him to a vet to make sure nothing else is going on. I would also visit PetCo for Adaptil, a pheromone to help calm pets in stressful situtation. Talk to your vet about other behavior supplements like Composure or Zylkene. I hope this helps. It can be difficult going from one place to another since Kane most likely doesn't understand. If he isn't eating I would recommend a physical to make sure there is nothing going on medically with him. If he is fine then I would talk to your veterinarian about how he is behaving. Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Ginger evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. These signs can definitely be due to nerves or the anxiety of being in a new place. It is hard for puppies to be separated from their littermates or mothers, go in a car they've never been in, and be surrounded by people they've never met. He likely won't take very long to adjust- young puppies tend to feel like part of the family very quickly - it sounds like he is playing already! He should get an appetite and start eating a puppy diet well. There should be a recommended feeding amount on the side of the puppy food bag. His stools should start to firm up - if they remain soft or become liquidy, he may have gastrointestinal parasites/worms that need to be treated - even if wherever you got him from treated him already.
