My dog is stressed and won't eat after moving. What should I do?

However, it does not typically last more than a few days. If it has been longer already, I would encourage you to check in with your veterinarian again so that they can reevaluate Lupin to ensure that nothing has changed. I'm glad to hear that Bentley is still playful and acting normally, even though he hasn't been eating and drinking normally. It is possible that both the stress of leaving his sister and your family, as well as moving to a new home may be contributing to his change in appetite. You can try tempting him to eat with a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days (1.5 cups per day, divided into smaller meals). After a few days, transition to his normal dog food by mixing the two foods together over another 5-7 days. It may also be worth looking into calming pheromone collars or diffusers (Adaptil is one example - https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/dog/dog-health-and-wellness/dog-calming-aids/adaptil-adjustable-calming-dog-collar) to try to help Bentley's stress level. You can try warming her food a bit, & even hand feeding her until she seems more secure in her surroundings. You should also be very careful in the number of treats & amount of human food you are giving her. Dogs very rarely will starve themselves unless there is a medical reason for the loss of appetite, but it is easy to satisfy a small dog with even a few extra treats each day. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In my experience, this process can take up to 1 week. However, while decreased appetite is common, it usually does not last that long. If this appears to last longer than 3 days, I would recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Make sure that she is drinking water at least as if not, she could become dehydrated. If not drinking water, have her evaluated sooner. Good luck and have a great day!

The stress of moving and change in routine can certainly cause a decrease in appetite. I would try offer Remy's food in smaller amounts more often to give him a chance to eat when he feels like it and see if that allows him to eat a bit more. If he's otherwise healthy and acting normal, I would just keep an eye on him. If he starts to refuse all food, seems lethargic, has other symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea, or seems ill, a vet visit is a good idea.

You can try a product called Quiet Moments Calm Chews with Melatonin for cats and see if this helps with any anxiety. If this does not work, then you could always speak with the veterinarian about an anti-anxiety medication short term. Hello. Certainly animals can be quite in tune with what is going on around them, especially some dogs that are sensitive. Changes in routine & emotions can definitely play a part. It does not hurt to speak with your veterinarian about this, as they know Apollo's health best, but if he is otherwise acting fairly normal, & just seems a bit off o his appetite, you can monitor things for awhile. If he completely stops eating all food & treats, or develops any vomiting or diarrhea, please have him evaluated as soon as possible.
