My puppy won't eat after a big routine change. Could it be the food?

However, it does not typically last more than a few days. If it has been longer already, I would encourage you to check in with your veterinarian again so that they can reevaluate Lupin to ensure that nothing has changed. If she seems fine otherwise with a good activity level, I recommend you try a highly palatable diet such as the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends or potentially consider adding pieces of boiled chicken or dog grade gravy to make her current diet more palatable. This is likely going to work for you. If at some point, she appears to not be doing well, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Good luck!

I would recommend doing a gradual transition to the new food. Slowly every day remove some of the old food and add more of the new food. If he is still not eating when you try the gradual transition then I would recommend having him evaluated to make sure there is nothing medical going on. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kira! She is very cute! Vomiting can be caused by a sudden diet change. I would with hold food for 12 hours then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice for 2 days. If he eats it well and doesn't vomit then put him back on the original food. If you really want him on this new food mix it with the old food and slowly transition him to the new diet. If he won't eat and continues to vomit he should see a Vet. I would slowly transition her back to her normal food and see if her appetite improves. If it does, then you know it's due to the food. These signs can definitely be due to nerves or the anxiety of being in a new place. It is hard for puppies to be separated from their littermates or mothers, go in a car they've never been in, and be surrounded by people they've never met. He likely won't take very long to adjust- young puppies tend to feel like part of the family very quickly - it sounds like he is playing already! He should get an appetite and start eating a puppy diet well. There should be a recommended feeding amount on the side of the puppy food bag. His stools should start to firm up - if they remain soft or become liquidy, he may have gastrointestinal parasites/worms that need to be treated - even if wherever you got him from treated him already. I'm glad to hear that Bentley is still playful and acting normally, even though he hasn't been eating and drinking normally. It is possible that both the stress of leaving his sister and your family, as well as moving to a new home may be contributing to his change in appetite. You can try tempting him to eat with a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days (1.5 cups per day, divided into smaller meals). After a few days, transition to his normal dog food by mixing the two foods together over another 5-7 days. It may also be worth looking into calming pheromone collars or diffusers (Adaptil is one example - https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/dog/dog-health-and-wellness/dog-calming-aids/adaptil-adjustable-calming-dog-collar) to try to help Bentley's stress level.
