My puppy has a neck rash and is acting anxious. What's wrong?

Unfortunately, without physically examining the area and potentially performing some diagnostics, I can't say for sure what sort of lesion that is. At first glance, it looks like something that could have been self-induced due to a primary issue causing itchiness. You should probably schedule a veterinary appointment and in the meantime get a cone to prevent your pup come itching the area further. If you do not believe your pup is itchy, then I would be more concerned about some sort of animal bite or bacterial infection. Hope this makes sense.

Hello, sorry to hear about your puppy. What you're reporting sounds like Snowball may be having some allergies which could definitely cause the clinical signs your are describing. Allergies can also lead to anxiety and stress due to the itchiness and discomfort. Other possible causes of her stress could be associated with you not being around such as with separation anxiety. If Snowball continues to break at her self or act very anxious, I would have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Monitor her skin for any redness, areas or hair loss, swelling or pain and notify your veterinarian if you note any. Hope this helps and best of luck

It is hard to tell from the picture, but if her nose is affected as well then I would be more concerned. Not could be just an infection but the location make me more concerned about an immune mediated disorder affecting the skin. If the antibiotics don’t resolve the problem then I would encourage you to biopsy the skin. This is the best chance at getting you an answer and to stream line the best course of treatment. That lesion is very irritated on Nana's poor little neck! Lesions like this can be related to trauma, a skin infection, the beginning of a hot spot or an infected cyst under the skin. I can't tell from the photo, but if it looks like bruising, then there is also a concern for a bleeding disorder and she needs to get to the vet right away. Assuming there is no bruising, I recommend to have the lesion examined by the veterinarian since it is so red. There are a few things you can do at home that may help until you get her into the vet. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You can wash the lesion with soap once a day and rinse well (don't wash her whole body, just the spot). Protect the areas from licking or scratching. I would clean it was a mild soap and water daily. Dry it well. You can try the spray below after drying. If it hasn't improved in a week he should be seen by a Vet for prescription medications. It looks like Pokki has a superficial infection on the skin of her neck. If she frequently wears a collar, this area can be prone to infection if the collar is not kept clean and dry. Rarely, pets can be allergic to the nylon material but this is very uncommon. It's generally more related to the collar being dirty/oily or getting wet. Sometimes parasites can also cause this type of rash as well. At home you can try washing the area with an antibacterial hand soap and rinse well. You can then apply a dab of coconut oil to the reddened bumps. Rub it in well. If this does not help within a week, make an appointment with your vet. That being said, if you wish to go ahead and have her seen, the doctor will provide medications that will clear it up faster. I hope this is helpful.
