Is milk replacer enough hydration for my puppy? Does he need water?

If they are 4 weeks old now you can mix the milk replacer with canned puppy food and put it on a plate (not a bowl) for all of them to eat. I also assume that the age you put on here is incorrect since it says that Louis is already 1 years old. A puppy is considered to be under 1 year. You can simply place water from the faucet into a regular dog bowl and offer it to him. He should drink readily and know what to do from there. If he doesn't seem interested at first, you can place a few drops on your finger and offer it to his lips for him to lick off. Do this a few times and he should begin to drink on his own. You can also give him canned puppy food in the beginning, just in case he doesn't drink an adequate amount of water initially, and this can help supplement his water intake. I hope this helps! You may need to add water to the dry food to soften it up for her to eat. You can also add puppy milk to the food so she is familiar with the food. Once she’s on the puppy food you can switch to regular water. I would have it available now so she gets used to it. Kisses to Fendi!

If the soft food is very wet he doesn't need to drink much water. You can put some water on your finger by the bowl to get him started or have a little bit of milk in the water so it tastes better. Three or four weeks is way too young for a puppy to be separated from its mother! A puppy should not leave it's mother until it's at least eight weeks of age. Canned puppy food has a high moisture content, so Princess will be getting water from eating that food, but I recommend adding water to the canned food to get more water into her system. You can also try mixing the replacement milk in with her canned food. She likely wasn't fully weaned from her mother, and that may be contributing to her not drinking water from a bowl. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Chowder is eating and playing fine he likely is getting enough water. If you are feeding him canned puppy food that has a lot more water in it than dry puppy food. If you are still nervous about the amount his is drinking add water to his canned or dry food. He is very young at 1 month and doesn't require as much water as an older puppy yet. Be careful about how much water you add to his food though, you do not wanting him getting a full belly from just water and not food. I hope this helps!

Hello. That is a lot of milk replacer to be using! Fortunately, you can completely stop using it as the puppies do not need it anymore. I would probably do only 1 milk feed a day for 2 days then 1 milk feed every other day for 2 additional feedings & then stop.
