When to stop milk replacer for 6-week-old puppies eating food?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 6 weeks of age Mika can be completely weaned and be eating 100% puppy food. Milk replacers can be very constipating so I recommend bottle fed babies be weaned sooner then puppies that are nursing. I would start getting her on puppy food. As long as she poops tomorrow I think you she will be fine. I hope this helps and I wish Mika the best!

If they are 4 weeks old now you can mix the milk replacer with canned puppy food and put it on a plate (not a bowl) for all of them to eat. Hopefully she will be interested in this food and can get her nutrients that way. Good luck and kisses to the pups!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 3 weeks is young. I’d recommend a puppy milk replacer and bottle feeding for another week or 2. Then mix the puppy milk replacer in with canned puppy food and gradually add dry food over a couple of weeks. I like Purina proplan orhl’s puppy foods. Good luck!

First, I would definitely recommend having the litter and mom examined by your vet - there are a number of health problems that could be making the dam reject the puppies. In general a one week old puppy should be eating about 22-30 ml of commercial puppy milk replacer (such as Esbilac) per day, and should be fed every 2-3 hours. They are too young to be weaned from milk, you will need to buy puppy replacer milk at the pet shop. there could be many reasons for the mother to stop feeding her pups, the most common would be mammary gland inflammation.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Goodness Paddy is super cute! I would cut out the egg. We want growing puppies to eat the puppy food and get the nutrients they need. Dogs are smart and will pick out the parts they want. If you want to add egg to the diet do it less often (1-2 times per week). I think 3 times a day feeding is as much as you should do and I would only do it until 12-14 weeks of age then do twice s day feeding. From your pictures he looks to be a healthy weight. You can add water or a little bit of canned puppy food to the dry to encourage him to eat it. He also may not need as much as you are offering. The bag is good place to find out how much to feed but if the puppy is to think give more or too fat give less. I wish you all the best!
