Why does my 7-week-old puppy have a lump on his belly near his groin?

My 7 week old puppy has a lump on his belly right beside his male parts.

This may be a hernia, which can occur in this area of the body (inguinal area). These are common in small puppies. I would recommend taking him in to your vet within the next couple of days to confirm this. Also you have the option of sharing a picture with either myself or another expert via consultation.
Other possible causes for a lump is an inflammatory reaction (usually red), abscess (usually warm to the touch and may be painful, caused by trauma), or a seroma (blood filled sac due to trauma).

What you're describing could be a congenital inguinal hernia, which is relatively common in puppies and if needed is usually repaired during spay/neuter procedures. That said, with any new lump or bump, especially if it is growing in size, suddenly appearing, or bothersome, should be checked out by your vet in person to confirm what it is and what the best course of treatment may be.

It looks like Scooby may have a small umbilical hernia. I would recommend that you have it checked out by a vet. Some umbilical hernias will close as the puppies get older, but some large ones may need to be closed surgically. It shouldn't cause any discomfort, but if Scooby keeps licking, you may need to cover it with a dog shirt so he doesn't irritate the skin.

If i can see correctly from the picture, your dog seems to have an umbilical hernia, this is a quite common problem and this will need to be repaired surgically eventually, it's usually done at the same time as neutering (around the age of 5-6 months).

My puppy has a large stomach bump near his private area. What is it?

Luma could have an umbilical hernia. This is an opening in muscles wall located where the umbilical cord was previously attached. Typically these need to be corrected surgically and it can be done at the same time as when you get him neutered. It's never recommended to breed a dog who has had an umbilical hernia because there they are inherited. I would have Luma seen by a vet either tomorrow given this bump is large. The vet can diagnose if it is an umbilical hernia and can discuss when surgery should be done to fix it. I hope this helps!

Sudden bump on my puppy's tummy, but she acts normal. Should I worry?

This very localized lump could be due to a trauma and inflammation/exudation of fluid under the skin in between muscles. Unfortunately it is diffiuclt to be more specific than that without having a feel during physical examination. My puppy has a stomach lump or abscess. What to do without a vet?

Unfortunately, Spot really should be seen by a veterinarian. If it is an abscess, that is one serious infection that needs to be addressed. It could also be a severe hernia. The swelling may be caused by loops of bowel that have slipped through a defect in the muscle wall. This will require surgery to repair. If left untreated, it is possible the bowel could become twisted or strangulated which would be an emergency and potentially life threatening.

My dog has bumps on her lower belly near her groin. Are they serious?

It depends a little on where these are and what they feel like. I am assuming under the skin if felt but not seen. If they are back in the groin/where the leg and groin meet and are on opposite sides from each other then they may be inguinal lymph nodes. If this is the case, especially if you're finding any other lymph node enlargement (the ones under the jaw are the easiest for owners to find), I would have your girl checked out by your vet. If these are just lumps under the skin they likely represent of mass of some sort. Are they freely moveable? There are several different types of masses that dogs can get under their skin, some more concerning than others. A very common benign tumor is a fatty tumor called a lipoma, but as other more concerning tumors can feel the same as a lipoma, I typically recommend that all masses be evaluated with needle cytology to know for sure. This is a simple procedure that your family vet can perforn. If fat is noted from this needle aspiration then no treatment other than monitoring is needed. If you elect to monitor for a while at home, and don't think that these are lymph nodes, just make sure that you're not noticing growth or a change in texture or the ability to move the mass around. Young dogs get benign tumors called histiocytomas. These usually grow quickly, but the immune system will typically resolve the problem within a month or so. My puppy has a red, inflamed bump on his belly. What should I do?

In the picture, it appears that the affected skin is bumpy and then there is quite a bit of redness around the edge. It’s possible that it could be a wart-like growth, but because of the amount of inflammation (causing the redness) going on, I would recommend taking Mac to the vet for a closer look. The vet will also look closely at all of Mac’s other skin (and mouth and other mucous membranes) to see if there are any other affected areas. They may be able to diagnose or have a better guess as to what’s going on, and discuss treatment options if any need to happen. Until he sees the vet, it would be helpful to have him wear an e-collar/cone so he can’t lick the area anymore. Licking will increase the inflammation and can skew how the vet evaluates the area.
