My 4-month puppy lost a canine tooth and is bleeding. How to stop it?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. He may experience mild bleeding from the gum and the gum may become swollen and sore for up to 24hrs. You can give him soft food for a day or two as picking up dry kibbles may cause some discomfort. In general, dogs tolerate losing teeth very well, so I do not think there is much to worry about.

I can’t be totally certain but the picture appears that the little front teeth (incisors) are adult teeth. But the canines are baby teeth. And by the looks of the little bulges, the adult canines will be erupting soon. Long story short, this was going to happen to this baby canine sooner or later anyway!. It does not hurt very much at all and will probably fall out completely (or he’ll swallow it) in the next day or so. There is no way you’d be able to knock out an adult canine with a rope toy. However, if they are loose that is usually indicative of an underlying dental issue so I would recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If that is accurate, or even if he's less than 6 months old, the "baby" tooth was likely loose, and the adult canine tooth will come in around 5-7 months of age. If he seems painful in his mouth, offer him canned or other soft food for a few days. You can also give him a cold teething toy such as a Kong that you keep in the freezer, Or let him chew on a frozen waffle or even on some ice. The cool will help soothe his mouth if it is sore. I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. You can stuff a little bit of gauze into the hole to stop the bleeding, if Abby lets you. The tooth may have come out due to a tooth root abscess, or it may havee broken off or damaged the bone in which the tooth was sitting. I suggest you make an appointment with your vet to have her teeth and gums checked. If the bleeding does not stop shortly after putting the gauze into the cavity, or if Abby does not let you near the mouth, you should take her to the vet today to stop the bleeding.
