My puppy lost a baby tooth. What soft foods should I feed my puppy?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 25 days old | 30 lbs

Someone had broke intoy h.i.E and they tried to steal my puppy in the mix of the burglary and I noticed when I came home and got to checking him out his fang tooth is now missing. I don't know if it was already loose of if it was forced out. How can I help my little man eat

I'm sorry to hear that, what an ordeal for both of you! He is listed as 2 months and 25 days old. If that is accurate, or even if he's less than 6 months old, the "baby" tooth was likely loose, and the adult canine tooth will come in around 5-7 months of age. If he seems painful in his mouth, offer him canned or other soft food for a few days. You can also give him a cold teething toy such as a Kong that you keep in the freezer, Or let him chew on a frozen waffle or even on some ice. The cool will help soothe his mouth if it is sore.

    Please do not give King any human pain medications, many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. There are a number of chew toys you can get for him at a pet store, including ones you can freeze that will help numb his gums . You can also soak a washcloth and freeze it, and then give it to him to chew on. If you do this, you must monitor him closely while doing it. I hope this helps!

    Get a Kong and stuff it with kibble or treats. Then smear peanut butter (make sure it does not contain any xylitol) over the hole completely. Put it in the freezer for a few hours. The coolness will feel good on M. J’s gums. In general King toys are a favorite for dogs. Rope toys can also massage the gum when he bites into them. If you go to the Pet Store or online you can find toys specifically for teething puppies. They can often be put in the refrigerator. As a sidenote, always check his toys for any pieces that he could tear off and swallow as this could cause an intestinal blockage. Throw away any of those toys and buy him new ones when this occurs.     Losing teeth can be painful for a puppy. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain relievers you can give her, as many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. There are teething toys you can buy for Gucci at a pet store, and I recommend ones that can be frozen. Once it's frozen, you give it to her and she can chew on it, giving her relief. If you are concerned she is really painful, then I would take her into a vet today. The vet can prescribe pain relief as needed. I hope this helps!

Puppy's loose fang at 5 months, whiny and won't eat. Is this normal?
I'm so sorry that Smokey's teeth seem to be causing him some discomfort. Based on his age, however, this may be completely normal. It is common for dogs to loose their baby canine teeth around 5-6 months, so it sounds like he is right on schedule for having that tooth fall out. You can let him chew on a cold washcloth to see if that helps give him some comfort. You can also soften his food with warm water if he seems reluctant to eat because of his baby teeth. That being said, if it is his adult tooth that is loose, he needs to be seen by your vet as soon as possible. Also, if the baby tooth that is loose is at all discolored or broken, I would take him to your vet as well as it could be infected and could cause damage to the adult tooth. My puppy's baby tooth got knocked out, another is loose. Is he okay?
Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the baby tooth that was knocked out came out intact, meaning the entire root is present then he should be fine. If the tooth was broken then it could abscess or affect the adult tooth. The loose one will fall out on its own as that is the normal progression. If you are planning to neuter him you can do it sooner and have the vet X-ray the broken tooth and remove it while he’s under. I hope this helps!

My dog's tooth fell out. Is this normal, and what should I do?
The picture is a little blurry but it does appear to look like a tooth. Makivali should have lost all his puppy teeth by ten months old but some small breed dogs can be late in development. If you don’t know what adult teeth look like vs puppy teeth, I would recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian to know if this is a normal tooth shedding or if this is a broken tooth, tooth root abscess or other pathological process. Many times pets don’t exhibit many signs of dental pain so you can’t base a decision off how he is acting. If it’s a normal puppy tooth, no reason to change his food. My dog knocked out a tooth. What should I watch for and what to do?
Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. He may experience mild bleeding from the gum and the gum may become swollen and sore for up to 24hrs. You can give him soft food for a day or two as picking up dry kibbles may cause some discomfort. In general, dogs tolerate losing teeth very well, so I do not think there is much to worry about.

My puppy has a loose, discolored fang but isn't in pain. What to do?
Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I do see a baby tooth there (the really pointy sharp tooth) and that is likely the tooth you are saying is really loose. Usually pets lose their baby teeth by the age of 6 months, so Vader is a bit of a late bloomer. I would recommend having your vet take a look at the tooth in person to see if it can be manipulated to come out. It may just come out on its own, but again, usually by this age the baby teeth are already gone. No need to worry too much however. If it does not come out on its own, then it can always be extracted at a later date. It is best to extract them to avoid overcrowding of the teeth and advanced dental disease. I would recommend brushing Vaders teeth often (3 times a week) to help remove foodstuffs that might get stuck there. Otherwise, plan on seeing your vet soon for further care if it doesn't happen to fall out soon. Best wishes with Vader and good luck with his stubborn baby tooth. Take care.

You are right that most puppies will swallow their puppy teeth when they become loose. As this process is occurring the gums may be more sensitive and you could see a little blood discharge on toys if they are harder. If he likes the kong it is fine for him to chew on it.
