Puppy losing baby teeth: Can they chew Kongs? Should I worry about swallowed teeth?

Swallowing her baby teeth should not cause her any problems. Often these teeth end up falling out when they are outdoors chewing on things and we never find them, but we do not have cases of dogs becoming ill or being injured from the loss of their baby teeth or these small teeth being swallowed.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the baby tooth that was knocked out came out intact, meaning the entire root is present then he should be fine. If the tooth was broken then it could abscess or affect the adult tooth. The loose one will fall out on its own as that is the normal progression. If you are planning to neuter him you can do it sooner and have the vet X-ray the broken tooth and remove it while he’s under. I hope this helps!

If that is accurate, or even if he's less than 6 months old, the "baby" tooth was likely loose, and the adult canine tooth will come in around 5-7 months of age. If he seems painful in his mouth, offer him canned or other soft food for a few days. You can also give him a cold teething toy such as a Kong that you keep in the freezer, Or let him chew on a frozen waffle or even on some ice. The cool will help soothe his mouth if it is sore. Given her age, that's her baby canine. Playing with a sock wouldn't be enough to tear out an adult canine. As long as the gum looks clean and isn't continuing to bleed after a few minutes, she will be fine. She's at the right age to be shedding her baby canines and her adult ones should be coming through soon.

Hello! If the baby canine tooth came all the way out and the piece of tooth coming out is his new adult tooth- then no worries! If the baby tooth is broken and partially inside the gums, then I would recommend a vet check. Unfortunately, broken baby teeth are a known risk factor for puppies getting tetanus because of all the crazy things they put in their mouths. In this case, we recommend extracting the remaining piece of tooth to prevent this. This looks like a baby tooth. It is around this time that Butterscotch's baby teeth will be falling out so his adult teeth can come in. Usually the puppy swallows the tooth that falls out, but you can find them as well. This is normal.
