My 10-week puppies are lethargic, wobbly, and have bloody stool. Why?

I am so sorry to hear that Lady has such a rough start in life. She seems to have found a happy home now. I would continue to feed her a high quality puppy food , I suggest one do the three veterinary approved brands; hills science diet, purine pro plan or royal canin. In addition I would have her given a worming treatment. Gastrointestinal worms are very common in young puppies and probably is the cause of her lack of energy, diarrhoea and bloody feces. If you take Lady in for her first set of vaccinations the vet will be able to send you home with a worming treatment. Best of luck with Lady. Bloody [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/diarrhea-1/) in a 10 week old puppy could be caused by a few different things. If he is behaving normally otherwise (eating and drinking fine, active and playful, no vomiting), then he may have parasites that are causing the diarrhea. [Roundworms](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/roundworms/) and [hookworms](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/hookworms/) are very common in puppies and can cause loose bloody stool. If he is not feeling well, laying around and not eating, then I would be much more concerned that he could have [parvovirus](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/parvovirus/) or another [serious illness](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/hemorrhagic-gastroenteritis/). Unfortunately, puppies can still catch things even if they don't go outside because we can carry in germs on our hands, clothing, and shoes without even realizing it. Poor Luna! She could have an infection (parvo, etc) or a parasite. Since she has bloody stool and is lethargic, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can test a stool sample to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. Hope she gets better soon!

I would be very suspicious that your puppy may have contracted parvovirus. Please take her in to your local vet right away to get tested for parvovirus and also a fecal exam. If she has parvo she will need medicaitons from your vet, fluids and possible extensive care to get treat her conditon. Parvo is a very deadly virus in puppies even with treatment, but the pet has the best chance of survival the earlier you start treatment. Try offering her small amounts of Pedialyte non-flavored by mouth via syringe or small turkey baster to try and keep her hydrated. Puppies dehydrate very quickly when they are having loose stool. Having severe diarrhea like Beckett seems to be having can be very painful and uncomfortable. This may be why he is more lethargic than normal and why his stomach seems tense/contracted. It is great news that he doesn't have Parvo! Hopefully in addition to the antibiotics your vet also dewormed Beckett, as puppies often have intestinal parasites. If Beckett stops eating, begins vomiting, or the diarrhea isn't improving after about 48 hours of being on the medication I would recommend bringing him back to the vet to be reevaluated. Sometimes with severe diarrhea these little puppies can become dehydrated and need additional treatment like fluid therapy. Good luck!

Poor pups. While a heavy parasite load can cause severe GI upset, and anemia which can cause a pup to become extremely lethargic, have bloody diarrhea, etc, I would also want to rule out underlying illnesses as a possibility. It would be best to bring them to a vet ASAP especially if they are lethargic or unable to keep any food or water down as puppies can quickly become very dehydrated. They may also need supportive care such as an IV or injected medications if they are very ill from the parasites or other causes. You can try continuing to offer water, or rubbing a little honey on their gums for energy until you can get to the vet, however due to the severity of symptoms it would be best to seek emergency care.

The clinical signs in combination with the age of your dog are causes for concern for the parvovirus. I would make sure she is tested for this immediately, because of how aggressive this disease process can be. It often requires significant hospitalization and therapy in order to make things right.
