Why does my puppy hiccup? How to potty train in freezing weather?

Hiccups are very normal in puppies, so I wouldn't be concerned about this :) If you think he is eating too fast, you can try putting his food in a puzzle toy like a Kong or a Kibble Nibble so that he has to eat more slowly - this is also a great way to keep puppies busy and give them something fun to do. Puppy training should be very positive with lots of rewards and short training sessions - Yogi is just a baby, so his attention span is going to be very short at this age. Use treats to show him what you want him to do, then praise and reward when he gets it right. Puppy proof your home to keep things out of his reach that he shouldn't have, and make sure he has lots of appropriate items to chew on - things like bully sticks, cow or pig ears, or rawhide chews are great for this. Puppies don't understand the concept of "doing wrong" - they only know that you're angry, and they act scared and submissive because they're frightened. So focus on showing him what you want him to do, and prevent him from making mistakes by managing the environment. It can be confusing to train a puppy to go in the house (which is what using a pee pad really is) and also to do her business outside. She can certainly be out long enough to go in all types of weather. You can hold an umbrella over her if necessary.

Puppy hiccups are quite common and typically become less frequent with age. Often this is due to gulping air with excitement or eating/drinking to fast. If the latter is the case you can try feeding on a plate with a cup or rock in the middle to make her eat around it thus slowing her down. It will take several months to fully train Milo. Take him outside immediately after meals and first thing in the morning. Take him to an area that is specifically for potty and reward him with praise and a treat when he goes outside. You may want to consider using pee pads also inside during this cold time so he learns to go on them when it’s too cold rather than going wherever he wants in the house. Once it warms up and he’s older then you can be more strict about going outside. He’s a baby so don’t leave him outside alone and never for more than a few minutes at a time. Hiccups are normal in puppies and usually occur when they get tired. They will outgrow this! A cough can be nothing. It minor irritation from the new allegens and environment or from a mild case of kennel cough. If it progresses or seems to interfere with daily life then I would get it checked. If. It make sure you mention it when her vaccines are due

Hiccups are normal in puppies, and they can have them on and off throughout the day. Typically, they occur after a meal, but they can occur at any time. Eventually, Bolt will grow out of them, so it's not something to worry about :-)

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Burping is from swallowing too much air. Be sure she is eating slowly. If she eats fast then use the special bowels to slow her down. Burping and hiccups are usually outgrown. Biting in puppies is very common and the number one complaint I get from puppy owners. They do grow out of it. I recommend when they start biting to stop playing with them and put them in a "time out." Do not use your hands to play with them. There should always be a toy between your hands and their mouths. Basic training is a must and can be started now. When she starts to bite she should be told to "sit" or "leave it." I am not a fan of negative reinforcement of puppies.
