Is my 9-week-old Labrador puppy's green diarrhea with mucus normal?

In dogs infected with parvo virus, there can be long term health effects from the infection such as chronic gastrointestinal disease. I would recommend going on a sensitive stomach formula and adding in a probiotic to see if this helps. As always, check the stool for intestinal parasites to make sure a parasite is not the cause. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Murphy! Murphy is having diarrhea. It is common to have urgency and straining with diarrhea. It can make them uncomfortable and that is why they whine. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, he ate something gross that is upsetting his belly, new food/treat/table food, food allergy/intolerance, toxin ingestion. Since Murphy is only 13 weeks old, I would take him to your Vet when they open. Bring a stool sample with you so they can test it for parasites. They may want to test him for Parvo virus if he is not vaccinated. Most likely he will be sent home with medications and a bland diet. I hope this helps and I wish Murphy a speedy recovery!

These signs could be compatible with an infective gastroenteritis and, considering his very young age, I would recommend to have him checked as diet correction and specific treatment based on antibiotics may be needed.

Diarrhea in a puppy this age is very common as a direct cause of: parasites (even though a dewormer was given), abrupt change in diet, or viral infections of the intestinal tract. It is important that his feces are tested for parasites and possible viral infections (depending on his vaccination status) by your veterinarian as soon as he can be seen. Your veterinarian will also be able to provide medications for the diarrhea as well. Make sure you keep him eating and drinking, and continue to monitor carefully.

I would recommend bringing Dakota to a veterinarian. Typically, I would recommend boiled chicken and white rice but due to her age I would recommend having a veterinarian make sure there are no intestinal parasites and that the diarrhea is just from the stress and diet change. Loose stools can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. The tar like appearance to his stool is likely due to digested blood, indicating bleeding in the GI tract of some kind (a growth, an ulcer, secondary to toxin ingestion, etc.). I would have him seen, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, bloodwork), and get started on treatment to resolve his issues (GI protectant, anti-nausea medication, anti-diarrheal, antacids, for example).
