My dog has tarry stool, vomiting, and diarrhea. Does he need a vet?

Black tarry stools can be observed with upper gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding. Things like parvovirus, gastrointestinal ulcers or parasites, among other possibilities can cause that. I'm concerned about this stool. Dark tarry stool like this can be a sign of stomach or intestinal bleeding. The bleeding could be from medication, parasites, a gastric ulcer or cancer. I'm glad Truman is feeling better but I recommend a veterinary exam soon. They will run a blood panel to check for anemia, perhaps check for intestinal parasites, and perhaps due some X-rays. Black tar-like diarrhea is a sign of digessted blood and a serious condition that needs to be checked out by a veterinarian. This could be caused by ulcers, a tumor an injury to the upper airways with blood being swallowed, or an esphageal bleeding. Your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian now, who will do blood tests, radiographs. Your dog may have to be hospitalised.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I noticed in one of those pictures that his stool is really diarrhea and is black (which usually means a sign of bleeding). Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. In addition, black stools can be indicative of bleeding into the small intestine or stomach which can happen secondary to an ulcer for instance. Bloody urine can be the result of an infection, stones, tumors, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. That class of medicines have potential to cause a GI ulcers which can cause vomiting and dark stool (digested blood) Taking him to the vet is the best option sonthey can also run blood work to check the kidneys as that can also be a side effect of that class of medicine. They have several different components to help with ulcers and preventing further damage. Feedings a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice is best until you can take him in

If Charlie has blood in his stool I highly recommend a veterinarian. Here they will look to see if he has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. This can be caused by ingesting something that upset his gastrointestinal tract. At the veterinarian they can hydrate Charlie and give medications to help this resolve. I highly recommend taking Frankie to a veterinarian. He needs fluids and blood work. It can be pancreatitis, a bleeding ulcer, parvo, intestinal parasites, etc. It is something where a physical examination and further diagnostics are warranted.
