My puppy has green diarrhea with black specs and is whining, help?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Mocha is adorable! Since she is only 8 weeks old and is now lethargic I think you should have her seen when your Vet reopens. Bring a stool sample with you. Also bring any paper work showing vaccinations you received when you got her. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral (parvo virus) and bacterial infections, she ate something gross that upset her tummy, toxin ingestion, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/human food. I would recommend bringing Dakota to a veterinarian. Typically, I would recommend boiled chicken and white rice but due to her age I would recommend having a veterinarian make sure there are no intestinal parasites and that the diarrhea is just from the stress and diet change. Since Charlie has been having abnormal stools for more than 2-3 days, I think medical intervention is needed at this time. I would be concerned about intestinal parasites and possibly parvovirus since he is so young and not fully vaccinated yet. I would recommend taking Charlie in to your vet and bringing a sample of his stool with you to be tested. Hi there! Sorry to hear that Xin is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Xin evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. Diarrhea in a puppy this age is very common as a direct cause of: parasites (even though a dewormer was given), abrupt change in diet, or viral infections of the intestinal tract. It is important that his feces are tested for parasites and possible viral infections (depending on his vaccination status) by your veterinarian as soon as he can be seen. Your veterinarian will also be able to provide medications for the diarrhea as well. Make sure you keep him eating and drinking, and continue to monitor carefully.

Diarrhea can be caused by a number of things, ranging from dietary indiscretion (he ate something he shouldn't have), diet change, gastrointestinal parasites (worms), or other organ system diseases like liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, etc. I recommend feeding Snowy a bland diet such as boiled (unseasoned) chicken or hamburger and rice, in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat, for the next 3-4 days, to help firm up his stools. You can also try adding in a small amount of Metamucil (original, unflavored) powder to this food. Metamucil is an over-the-counter fiber supplement for people that we often use to help dogs with diarrhea. He would likely benefit from about 1/4 teaspoon of Metamucil in his food twice a day. If you are not noticing an improvement in his diarrhea after 2-3 days, I recommend bringing him (and a sample of his stool) to your veterinarian. At that time, a fecal analysis can be performed, and any other diagnostics as needed. I hope this is helpful! Best of luck with Snowy!
