Puppy has fever and is sleeping after vaccine. Should I give medicine?

That could be a vaccine reaction. You did not say however which type of medication you gave him for the fever and so I cannot advise if there are side effects to that or not. Please repost with the name of the medication and the active ingredient if needed. I also recommend to call his veterinarian and tell him what’s going on. Hello. It sounds like your little puppy may have a respiratory infection. Unfortunately, there really are no safe over the counter medications for a puppy this young. Do NOT give any children’s cold medication or ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc. Closely monitor his temperature and encourage him to eat and drink. Some of these infections run their course on their own, but it can be more problematic in a very young puppy of 2 months of age. If your puppy’s fever continues and he becomes lethargic, not eating or develops a thick nasal discharge, veterinary care will be required.

You don't need to give him any medications at the moment. human meds to reduce fever are not suitable for dogs and medications to reduce fever are rarely given in case of mild fever. if your dog does not seem to get better within 48 hours you should take him to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.

A fever is possible. You can take a rectal temperature. He may a fever if it is over 102. If he has a fever, it should be checked out by a vet. There are no recommend at home treatments for fever in dogs that are safe. Do not attempt to cool him since you can easily make puppies hypothermic. The concern arises when your pet is severely lethargic, not eating, non-responsive, pale gums, or excessive vomiting/diarrhea. A high fever and lethargy should be addressed by your veterinarian. In a puppy this young they will want to rule out disease processes such as the Parvovirus, and will likely want to obtain some blood work. While it could be a simple cold, typically these do not cause high fevers. Antibiotic therapy may be required if there is an infection.
