Puppy fever 5 days after vaccine: Is it a reaction or serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | unneutered | 4 months old | 88.361 lbs

Kronos my puppy Rottweiler was vaccinated with attenuated live DHLPP on the 11th of January 2020. As at today, his temperature is reading at 39.4°C (102.920°F) and Stephanie the adult Rottweiler is reading at 38.8°C (101.840°F). Is Kronos temperature higher because of the vaccination approximately 5 days ago or should I be worried?

Normal dog temperature is 99-102.5. The temperature could be elevated due to activity, excitement, inflammation or infection. Typically a vaccine reaction will happen within 24 hours though 48 hours could be possible. Vaccine side effects can sound very scary but they are rare and the protection they provide against disease is worth the risk for most pets (pets with known vaccine reactions may warrant different protocols by their veterinarian).

That could be a vaccine reaction. You did not say however which type of medication you gave him for the fever and so I cannot advise if there are side effects to that or not. Please repost with the name of the medication and the active ingredient if needed. I also recommend to call his veterinarian and tell him what’s going on. Hi there. It sounds like Kozmo may have had a vaccine reaction. Usually the side effects wear off rather quickly if they aren't serious...if he continues to act strangely I would encourage you to take him in to see what's going on specifically-he may require bloodwork. Hope this helps!

Dog has fever after vaccines. When to see emergency vet?

If he is still running a fever after all of this, I would get him seen by an emergency veterinarian to be safe. He may need something stronger such as a steroid to help with a potential reaction. My 6-week-old puppy is hot, whining, and seems unwell. Is it a fever?

A fever is possible. You can take a rectal temperature. He may a fever if it is over 102. If he has a fever, it should be checked out by a vet. There are no recommend at home treatments for fever in dogs that are safe. Do not attempt to cool him since you can easily make puppies hypothermic. Either way, I would recommend that he get checked out by a vet to see if there is a possible reaction to his current ringworm treatment.

Is my puppy's sleepiness normal after vaccinations, or should I worry?

Puppy's getting sleepy after their shots is a normal reaction to vaccinations. They can also have a low grade fever and/or one bout of vomiting/diarrhea normally that are no cause for concern. The concern arises when your pet is severely lethargic, not eating, non-responsive, pale gums, or excessive vomiting/diarrhea. If you notice any of these symptoms then it is best to take puppy to a vet asap for immediate care, because a mores serious vaccine reaction is occurring at that point.

Puppy staggering and not eating after vaccine. Is this normal?

This is not a normal reaction to a vaccine. However, I would be concerned there is also something else going on since it's been several days between vaccine and reaction. Due to the symptoms you mentioned, it would be best to bring Kronos to a veterinarian right away for care.
