My puppy fell in toilet, has water in lungs. Will he recover?

Pulmonary contusions alone without any other injury can take few days to recover completely. Considering the young age and if he is otherwise fine, the chances for recovery may be good. She needs to see a vet for treatment. Treatment for aspiration which can turn into aspiration pneumonia is oxygen therapy, intravenous (IV) catheter access, IV fluids, and IV antibiotics. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

My guess is that during the bath he aspirated some water down into his lungs. I recommend you stop trying to give him water for now. You need to get him to a vet if he is lethargic (just laying around) and groaning. This could be a serious issue in a small breed dog that is so young. I would consider this an emergency. Heart disease affecting the lungs occurs when the heart is unable to pump the blood forward well, and the pressure back-up in the lungs causes fluid to seep out into the lungs, and the lungs fill up like a sponge filling up with water. The medications for heart disease include a diuretic which will essentially 'ring out' that sponge. It pulls fluid out of the body, and therefore out of the lungs. For this reason Rocky will drink and pee a lot on the medication. The other medications work by making the heart pump better (Pimobendan is the usual drug of choice for this) as well as decreasing the blood pressure so the heart can pump in a forward direction more easily (ACE inhibitor usually). Depending on the level of heart disease your vet will choose 1, or all 3, of these medications. Some dogs respond very well to medications and can live for a while, with changes in the medications every once and a while. Some dogs unfortunately don't respond well to the medication. It all depends on how severe the heart is at this point, as well as how well Rocky will respond to medications. You can get an echo (ultrasound of the heart) to determine exactly how bad the heart is at this point, or just see how he responds to the medications. His best chance is to be diligent about his medications, don't let them run out as he will need to be on them for the rest of his life, and do your follow up appointments as your vet is recommending. When animals are sleepy after a hit on the head, which is the my biggest concern for what you are describing, it could be that they have a condition called 'cerebral edema'. Your vet will check for this by assessing your puppies mentation, pupil size and shape and responsiveness, blood pressure, heart rate, and the rest of his physical exam. This, if present, is very serious and sometimes can be fixed and sometimes cannot be fixed. Your vet, if they feel that cerebral edema is present, will give a drug called Mannitol, or will give a drug called 'Hypertonic Saline', to try to decrease this pressure. I am glad you brought Bentley to the vet, that is the best place for him. If you are concerned about Bentley then I recommend you call the clinic and get an update on Bentley, as we cannot know his prognosis without knowing exactly what is happening. I'm sorry that Tuck inhaled some water! Given that he is acting totally normal, running around and playing, I would suspect he will be fine. If he was having difficulty with this, he would not be running around or playing and he likely did not ingest enough of the bath water to cause a significant problem. I would be more concerned if he was acting like this after being in a swimming pool or a large body of water. Keep an eye on the hacking, and if it's continues or gets worse over the next 24 hours, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps :-)

Yes, he could have pneumonia. It is best to have him to a vet for an exam because if that is the case, he will need antibiotics (at the minimum) to recover. Remember, puppies have an under-developed immune system (just like human babies) so they are more susceptible to infections. Please take him to a vet as soon as possible.
