Puppy fell, paw looks bent. Does he need a vet even if he plays?

Hi and thanks for posting. A fall can cause bone or ligament injuries. He may have endured a sprain or muscle pull or could be more serious such as a fracture or luxation. I would recommend Simba be evaluated by his veterinarian soon for a hands on exam to determine what is going on here with the paws. He may need x-rays to determine the extent of the injury.

IT is quite likely if it is causing her to fall over it may be broken or dislocated. Please arrange an emergency appointment for her and prevent her from walking/falling until you can have her fully assessed to prevent further injury. Keep her fasting from food as a mild sedation may be required for xrays

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Ouch, poor Loki! He will need to see a vet for x-rays to confirm if he broken or dissociated his toe, and I would take him into a vet first thing in the morning. Tonight, I would rest him. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Do not feed him in the morning as he may need to be sedated in order to get x-rays, and he should have an empty stomach in order to be sedated safely. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I would keep an eye on the area for now given that Hercules is not showing any signs of discomfort when walking and there is only a bit of bleeding. It may be there was a bit of trauma to the nail when he fell but not serious enough to require a vet visit. Should he start limping on that leg, licking that paw a lot, the paw continues to bleed, the paw becomes swollen, red, and/or warm to the touch, the nail becomes cracked in half, he becomes lethargic, or has a loss of appetite, then he will need to see a vet.
